Re: Where is the negativity???

Sorry, I'm going to bring a dose of optimism here and say we beat the Cardinals and the (McNabb, TO, and Westbrook-less) Eagles. If we win either of the Cowboys and Giants games, we go 9-7 (which I think is likely). If we beat both the Cowboys and Giants, we go 10-6 (which I think is unlikely). I still have faith...which, apparently means I am a blind optimist.

This is what I see. We have four defeats to AFC West teams and two to NFC teams. I have watched the Giants and Cowboys every week make the same mistakes if not more than we have made and lose close games. Here are five reasons we will beat both of them.

1.Drew Bledsoe is a breathing statue, who will be live bait for our defense now that the Walt Harris era is over. Bledsoe threw only one TD against our defense with the homefield advantage and if Carlos Rodgers can be as consistent as he has been we should finally force some turnovers and great field position.

2.Eli Manning has been stinking up the place for the last two weeks. He has only one away game to the 49ers. He will not win in D.C. He is flustered when there is enough pressure placed on him which causes him to throw off of his back leg and make mistake after mistake.

3.Antonio Pierce thinks he has this team figured out. But watch what one week of sleepless nights will create. The Redskins will beat the Giants deep. Brunell has to go after Curtis Deloach who has been burnt so many times Coughlin is considering checking him into the burn unit of hospital.

4.Rock Carwright and Mike Sellers will have the best performances of their careers. It's time the no-name players step up.

5.The twelth man will determine who goes home a loser. The Redskins are the team that can beat the Redskins at this point. That meeting Gibbs had, ironed out most of the problems, now the real lesson will be put into action against the New York G-Strings and the Dallas Cowbitches.

Re: Where is the negativity???

You and everyone else out here can complain about the lack of aggresiveness on a Gibbs coached team. It isn't going to change one thing. This is the way he was, is , and more than likely always will be. If the running game is going crazy, like it was, its going to be more conservative. The fact the Defense was playing really good, was even more of a reason for him to be conservative. This is not college where we try and put up 40 points in the first half. A win is a win, fact is in the 2nd half we scored two TDs. thats when it really counts. We were up 10-3, the Rams couldn';t move the ball for crap. Why risk a turnover and give them a short field? Not going to happen. We had to crowd out of the game, the QB confused, its all about field position and we had it all day long.

First of all, the score was never 10-3, it was 10-7. Second, yeah we had it, but it's a different ballgame if the Rams pick that fumble up in the end zone. Shit happens, and you have to expect it to. It's not running the score up, it's ensuring that if something goes wrong, you're still in control. Gibbs never coached when the 2-pt conversion was in the NFL, and I don't know if he's calculating the scores right. 17-9 is a touchdown away, and 24-9 is still only two scores. If Gibbs can assume his guys are going to play "mistake free football," then he should trust them to make plays. Why on earth did we not try to score before halftime? That's the kind of things that have lost us games in the past. Santana Moss should have touched the ball in the second half. Joe Gibbs' idea of not being conservative involves running a very improperly timed trick play, like a reverse to start the game or a toss-and-pass when we should have just run a toss, or a deep pass. No need to combine the two.

I still firmly believe that we have the talent and desire to go 4-0 regardless of what plays are called. The O Line is looking good, and that's what our success will hinge on.

Boy, sounds like you should be on the side line. Point is, Gibbs is not going to take unnecessary risks. deal with it. or get into coaching and run a team the way you want and see how you would call those plays in those situations.

I would love to get into coaching but not many programs are looking for a 24 year old to run a team. I would really like to have the job of "replay consultant," since the last guy who did it obviously had no idea what he was doing.
My point is that the risks that some may consider "unnecessary" are the ones that could have won us games in November had we taken them. And I do deal with Gibbs' playcalling, by sharing my opinion on this message board. I mean, what's the board for, if not to question possibilities and discuss games with fellow Redskin fans?
