Re: Come up with a new name for the Redskins

Just curious what's the tipping point to just say F it and move on to a new team? I think that's the delicate balance here. Too radical of a change and you leave the franchise totally unrecognizable especially for the out of market fan base.

I think a name and color change could be too much for some fans which is why the colors wont change. That's why some names have to also be ruled out, you cant call the teams Americans or Federals without changing to red, white, blue. Also anything military seems like it wouldn't work with the current color scheme.

Personally I don't think there is much of an out of town fanbase anymore (honestly there isn't much of an in-town fanbase anymore either) and those fans that do exist are older. All this talk of calling them the Hogs is meaningless to a 20 something, they weren't born during the glory days and likely don't care. I suspect their feelings are that if the fans that are left have stuck with them through the garbage of the last 30 years then they will stick through this change.

Does 5 people constitute an out of town fanbase? I'm not saying there aren't WFT fans outside of DC, I'm saying there aren't very many. And I bet the average age of those fans is 40+. WFT hasn't done anything to attract new fans in 30 years.

What's more telling to me is how much the fan base has shrunk in the DMV. I live in the MD suburbs and nobody around me is a WFT fan. When I first moved here it was everyone but now they have changed to Balt. Between the losing, Snyder, and all the BS surrounding this organization people either dont care about WFT or downright hate them. If I owned this organization that would give me pause.

It was just a quick example showing the out of town fans are still there.

The fan base as a whole has probably shrunk over the years but I know just personally anytime I got out to a bar to watch a game I'm never the only Skins fan there. Consistent winning will bring back plenty of fans.

Re: Come up with a new name for the Redskins

There's a loud local group of Skins' fans here in Louisville. I haven't attended a game watch with them for a while, but I doubt that much has changed with the loyalties of those in the group.

If you're gonna stick with them through the crap they've been the last couple of decades, why change now, when we're on the verge of truly being formidable?

I'd submit, it's easier to stick with your team in the age of fantasy football. While they may suck, you can get your winning-fix through your FF team.

As a city without a team, but surrounded by NFL markets, you can pretty much find local bars hosting a variety of NFL team fan bases here in Louisville.

The Bengals is probably the "local" team most rooted for, although the Colts have tried to claim Louisville as part of their territory. The Titans are about the same distance away to the south, but don't have much traction here.

For the odd fan bases, we have a size able Green Bay Packers fan base here (Paul Hornung's influence started that), as well as Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears, and Minnesota Vikings (no idea why). And probably like a lot of cities, we have a very annoying Steelers contingent here ... and of course, those bastard Cowboys.

If they were to change the colors and erase the history all together I'd be out

I don't think changing the name and colors means the history is erased. They still have the Super Bowl wins and records. The link just isn't as obvious.

Who team would you change to?

No idea TBH, never gave it a thought.

Probably just be a fan of the sport at that point.

Same here. I already enjoy kicking back on Sundays and watching redzone all day. Wouldn't really hurt me to not have a team.

The easy choice for me would be the Saints or Bills since I've lived in both markets and both are not rivals of WSH but I just can't picture myself in another teams colors.. Its weird
