In-season surprise: Cowboys released LB Jaylon Smith, per source.

And given this:

@spotrac
Wow. Jaylon Smith had 5 years, $50.75M left on his contract.

His release leaves behind $16.6M of dead cap to the #Cowboys

2021: $9.8M ($7.2M cash)
2022: $6.8M

*****************

You have to wonder what has he done to get released by the Cowpukes.

He didn't recover from the nerve injury and Micah Parsons is the real deal. He was as bad as Bostic, but a lot more expensive.

Nah - he was caught fingerblasting some random girl at a bar while preaching family values to his teammates at the facility.

And it took them 5 years to figure this out?

I think JJ is as stubborn as DS, and Jaylon was one of his picks. But now JJ has Micah so Jaylon is yesterday's LB de jour

Smiths contract extension was poorly written by Dallas. Fact of this is, starting in 2022 he had an 'injury clause" in his contract that guarantees his $9.8m dollar salary if injured. Dallas asked him to restructure simply by waiving that injury clause. Smith declined. Dallas released him in a cap saving move.
