This. I was thinking that we need to keep both tackles last night during the game, even if it means making Lucas a highest paid backup tackle. Given our history with Oline injuries, we need to make sure we have deep Oline depth. |

Re: We won again post game thread
Raiders are a good team, feel for them re the off field stuff happening during the season (gruden, ruggs).
Carr is a good QB and he mostly was held in check. Surprised they only had one 3 n out. We had good 3rd down D holding them to 2-8. Jack Del Rio, Sam Mills III (DL coach), Steve Russ (LB), Chris Harris (secondary) get a lot of credit. They have turned this D around. It was a frustrating first 4 games of the season watching our LBs playing zone getting gashed on 3rd and longs but they shut that down and now have the 3rd down D improving. Hell of a team win. Gibson - worried we are running him into the ground. So many touches, hard touches. Offensively, we went 7-13 on 3rd downs, still a death by a million paper cuts offense though. Lots of plays around the LOS. Offense seems to have given up on long balls and perhaps that best. No need to force it but itd be nice to hit on some PA plays. Jamin Davis flashed, missed 2 one on one open field tackles in the flats. Holcomb - best game for him this year imo. Those 2 PDs were huge plays.

Best play was the O line come to defend Heinicke. I remember a QB getting dragged across the field and the O Line doing nothing.

I dont know how Flowers escaped without a flag. Love the emotion but he went rage mode a little longer than everyone else and fortunate the refs gave him a long leash.

Not sure why he throws the ball high … at least he doesn’t throw it low then high .. easier to fix one issue .. hopefully he can correct it

Re: We won again post game thread
I think he's already improved quite a lot on this high ball issue. Just a couple of them on Sunday, and it felt surprising compared to the previous 3 weeks.

Trying to command a fastball. harder you throw, harder it is to control. And if you dont have that natural fastball arm sometimes you try and load up on a 10 yarder you sacrifice some accuracy/control. Does he throw sometimes with the nose of the ball slightly up vs slightly down? A lightly up nose = wobbles and sailing the ball. I havent heard anybody talk about the detailed mechanics of how the ball comes out. Id guess his spin rate is lower than most starting QBs as well. --------------------------------------------- Narrator: However, velocity can be a double-edged sword. Because trying to increase the velocity behind a throw can sometimes compromise the integrity of the ball's spiral. Orzel: If you're trying to throw the ball really, really hard, sometimes that means you can't get as much spin on it as you would like, and then the ball ends up not going as far as it could, just because it doesn't hold its orientation, and it tumbles in the air, and it's not as accurate. https://www.insider.com/how-nfl-quar...otball-2019-10 |

Re: We won again post game thread
I think he purposely tries to throw high to LT because he knows he'll go up and get it, he has said as much. It's dangerous though because often he's too high. The floaters though...make me uber uncomfortable when they leave his hand.

I think he's not stepping into his throws enough. which could be a psychological issue with his height. He ought to do what Brees did and make himself taller in the pocket so he has confidence to push into the throw. |

Re: We won again post game thread
Throwing off your back foot will make the ball go high too. I think that's usually his problem, not throwing with a good base.

Re: We won again post game thread
Also throwing off the back foot or legs parallel = inaccurate throws. This was haskins just relying all on arm strength and not using his torso/legs at all.
Good footwork, good base, good hip twerk ... Id imagine someone like Brady rarely throws not set. Practice, practice, practice, focusing on the minut fundamentals ... making sure you have a good base and step in throws every single time. make it your religion. Heinike shows that he is coachable and mendable and thats great bc we all know he is hungry and dedicated to being the best he can be for this team. He has pride but hes not pride full. edit -- matty beat me to it. I write unnecessary dissertations, you get to the point. |

Re: We won again post game thread
I was going to make that point but you beat me to it. He can do little to improve his power, but he can still work on technique this offseason, especially if he does go into 2022 as incumbent starter (he'd have had reps as #2 in camp). More time with the starters will let him tweak stuff.
