Re: Name Reveal 2.2.22

This either got leaked on purpose or someone is getting fired. Not too many people could have been in that room to take that photo.

Re: Name Reveal 2.2.22

Ugh. Hardly worth the 2 year wait. The W with a monument on the left side seems unimpressive to me. There were better mock ups of Ws out there. If this is real, I don’t love it.

I wonder whether it is being leaked to see reaction so they can go in another direction if all they hear is vomiting sounds.

Maybe I am a minority of one. But I just don't care. Washington Football Team does it for me.

Re: Name Reveal 2.2.22

I'm not gonna make real decisions on the logo/uniforms until I see full uniforms.

The name is blah if Commanders is actually the name. The definition of average. Generic and boring. But that's what's acceptable now. Don't want to offend even 1 person.

I have been very reluctant to get into this part of the debate. And I want to preface this by saying I have several friends who were in the military, a couple went to Afghanistan, and actually a couple of ex American soldiers, one of whom went to Irak. All great men, great souls, and I have nothing but respect for their courage, and compassion for the deep psychological scars some of them have because of what they went through. My grandfather was a career officer, fought in WW2 and stayed in the military all his life, one of the nicest and full of love human being I've known.

This being said, I have to admit I am a bit perplexed at one thing : everybody (not only here, on Twitter and FB too) is trying to anticipate how any name could become offensive in some way at some point in time, sometimes quite over reaching. I've read Wolves could be seen as a celebration of sex offenders... Don't know if said in good faith or not. We are now thinking the color Red in a name is not 100% safe... And the NFL has a strict policy when it comes to celebrating guns/weapons, Josh Norman was fined a decent amount for his bow and arrow celebration IIRC... But almost nobody seems to think that celebrating the military, hence the war, hence the killing of millions human beings, could one day be seen as somewhat offensive...

I don't want to get into a debate about recent wars and all, but if you're ready to think that somehow Redhawks would be seen as offensive one day, don't you think a name celebrating war wouldn't be that cool at some point in history ?

I understand and respect that honoring the military in the US is a big thing, and, right now, quite consensual... But things evolve, maybe it won't always be the case...

Imagine if the name were Commanders during the Vietnam War. Protests at the stadium.

Does anyone remember the player in the late 80s I believe that said the gridiron was like preparing for war and he was roundly criticized for the comparison.

I hope this is just something that let's us all say, at least it (whatever the name is) is better than those options.

I saw your posts, agree with your reasoning and understand your feeling. I am personally not offended by it, but I sure don't feel nearly the same connection with a military officer (pretty high up the chain too) than I did with a Native American theme.

I really won't believe it till they announce it. It's such a terrible choice.

Exactly, not to mention the Packers G, the Bears C, and the Browns lack of a logo, all considered classic

Find it awfully hard to believe they’d let that slip so easily, really doubt that’s anything official. Probably just a fan submission/placeholder.
