Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Coaches aren't giving up on Davis... LB is still a big need regardless of what happens with him and will likely be a big target in the draft

Similar to moving Scherff from T to G. I'd rather have an excellent G than a mediocre T. I'd rather have an excellent WLB (Davis isn't this yet) than a mediocre MLB (which he was, at best).

Totally agree. I think mlb is ultra important though. Just draft one that can fuckin play. I can’t watch opposing tight ends torch us for another year. |

Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Any consideration this may be smoke screening to temper the FA demands or convince others we won't draft MLB at #11? I mean if Devin Lloyd is still there when we pick would we be fools to not take him? Or we can take Kyle Hamilton and pick up an MLB in later rounds/after the draft? I'm not inclined to read too much into what Ron says before the draft.

Just one man's film breakdown but I think gives you an idea of what to expect if Holcomb plays MLB https://markbullock.substack.com/p/d...ashingtons?s=r
Solid job making calls and playing middle but better suited outside. One of the things I give credit to staff and Holcomb is I felt earlier in season he was out of position and having to close on the play and later in the season was in position better. Perhaps French with his superior use of technology and keen eye might be able to validate or refute what I was seeing.

I agree completely. It's clear to me that Holcomb is a Sam and Davis is a Will. Plus this is a very good year to draft a true modern Mike LB, IMO.

I think Mark Bullock's breakdown are awesome, just don't have enough time to read em all so I didn't subscribe. I've always liked Holcomb, I have to be honest I don't remember noticing a massive difference throughout the season. I think he's way better in coverage than he's given credit for. I actually remember posting his coverage on Elliott, one of the plays highlighted in this link initially posted by BaltimoreSkin . My issue is I'm not sure he's physical enough to secure the center of your defense, he's making a lot plays because he's smart and quite fast, but he's not big for a LB and it's not like he got eye popping speed nor is he a huge hitter. I actually think he's an underrated asset, but we need a sure thing at MLB, a tough physical guy. Some are available, so I don't get why you would go through the bother of having 2 guys transition to new positions + force yourself to find a NFL ready starting outside LB in the draft while you could just sign a veteran MLB and finally have a complete LB squad.

Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
I'd find that almost impossible to believe. NFL execs/coaches/agents, etc are a tight knit circle. Everyone talks, everyone would be well aware of what goes on here. Snyder has two decades in this league under his belt, nothing should come as a big surprise. And he consulted with Gibbs who I'm sure behind closed doors would give an honest coach to coach opinion.

Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Here is a good article regarding Holcomb's development as a LB and his flexibility.
https://www.commanders.com/news/cole...nd-play-caller Maybe he is the plan for MLB. Then Davis at WLB and Devin Lloyd at SLB...? |

I agree French.
For me it just goes back to - Why is the position group with the most questions, the one that both the Head Coach and D Coordinator played? |

Maybe they feel like as ex LBs they can coach up anybody and are a bit caught up in their ego like "nah we don't need to spend big $ at LB, let us find gems that nobody else saw and coach em up!". Just speculating.
