Re: 2022 veteran QB options

If we sign any of the second rate guys, we absolutely better draft a QB at 11, and no later than round 2.

Very interested to see how Carson Strong's medicals go. He is a stud, if his knee can hold up for 5+ years, I wouldn't mind going BPA at 11 and trading back up into the 1st to get him. Or trade down from 11, get extra picks, and then pick him.

Don't even bother signing a vet like MT if we draft someone like Willis high. You have to get the rookie ready to play right away and devote 90% of the snaps to him in practice.

Agree if not you get what happened to Justin Fields in Chicago

My theory has always been the best man plays. Even snaps to start and whoever plays better the 1st day, few days, camp, etc., gets more reps the next time until the other guy starts playing better.

We also need to win football games. If the veteran is playing better and gives us the best chance to win, week 1, he should play. The other guys want to win. The NFL isn't for making rookies feel good.

Edit - the veteran is likely to be signed well before the draft too, I would think.

Then you don't take a QB first round. You can't take a QB high and say we're going to let the rookie and a vet battle it out. That's a very poor plan and it will get Ron fired. You go all in with the rookie or you don't take him.

Totally agree with this because it is year 3. Would have been ok in year 1 or 2 but not now.

I'll agree to disagree with you on this point.

My hope would be that the rookie being drafted outplays the veteran rebound anyways.

I feel like if we signed a vet and drafted a rook they would both constantly be looking over their shoulder.
The vet rebound comes here knowing its his last chance. The rook comes here with the weight of the world to finally be the guy. You start the rook and he stumbles - gotta bring in the vet u gave a contract to now and maybe its cus the rook was looking over his shoulder. You start the vet and he stumbles- you bring in the rook and we signed the vet for no reason.
I think that you either
A) sign the vet and draft elsewhere or
B) draft at 11 and keep Allen who would be more than happy having a job period. I cant see even TH being told he is the backup and being good with that. I think a rook would look over his shoulder at TH but not Allen in other words.
