Players betting on the game is a totally different animal and one where they have no choice but to drop severe punishments as a deterrent and for public perception. Does the message really get across if they suspended him for a couple of games?

There is not a sports fan or player that isn't aware of the Pete Rose situation...you just have to know you can't go there.
