It's not necessarily the amount of money a lot of times, but how it is distributed and how does it affect this year's cap.

I think they just like the player more too. Norwell was all pro in 2017.

Problem is if he is as or more expensive than Flowers was we just switched a younger player that played well for us for an older player that may be better but has to be integrated into our line and costs us a comp pick. If he costs less then I can see the utility.

That's what I meant - wonder if it's less than what Flowers' cap hit was this year.

It should be, one is 27 and the other 30, but not by a big margin IMO, if I'm reading this correctly Norwell was making 9M/yr the last 2 seasons.

Either way, I'm not going to freak out over it. I would have loved to see Flowers extended instead of released... But we needed a guard, and they seem to have got a decent guard. I'm ok with it pretty much regardless of the $ (would make more sense if Norwell gets way less than Flowers obviously, but...).

I wouldn't mind Trevor Penning in the 1st round either, he would solidify the OL.

The way I see it quality wise Norwell and Flowers were a wash when it comes to quality, so Norwell better damn well be cheaper because we also lost a comp pick with his signing.

I don't think we lose a comp pick.

Norwell was scheduled to be under contract for 2022, but the Jaguars agreed to shorten the contract in exchange for a pay cut for 2021. Shortening contracts make the player ineligible to generate compensatory picks for his former team.
