Payne is much better lined up at nose in the 0-1 tech much like Allen which gives us redundancy. Mathis is a much more natural 3 tech which is what Payne has been playing for most of his career. If we have no stud OL player to pay, use the money on the DL/DE and draft Young inexpensive OLinemen. Young’s contract might not be so bad as he’s coming from injury and who knows how long before he regains his old form.

Going cheap two years in a row on Oline is a bold move! In all honesty though that is probably the only way they afford all three down the road. It could definitely be worth the risk if Howell pans out and can get quality draft.

probably an 18-24month type injury, so sometime next year.
