He won them with Andy Reid and Patrick Mahommes. The best offensive coach and quarterback in the game. There is definitely a thought of how much does EB have to do with this?
It is a reasonable question.

EB needs to prove that he can run a strong offense without Reid and Mahommes. No better place than here to prove you can turn an offense around.

Reid said himself the guy needs to go run his own show.

It is not a reasonable question when you have teams hiring DCs, ST coordinators, etc., etc. as HC.

Again, I keep bringing up McDaniels as an example of a HC who worked under a great coach/QB option who got many time overs opportunities to become a HC (and he's already failed at it once). Also, there is an entire history of Belichick tree coaches who have failed as HCs.

I gotta be honest, the gap between 1 and #2/3 is so big it makes me wonder how we ended up here.

If he does offer EB the job that's a hell of a risky transfer for EB - he could be looking at being on the street in a year or less if Ron can't get us out of mediocrity.

that is a glass half empty look

half full: EB could be the replacement for RR if he performs well

Very true. Obviously best case scenario he comes in, turns Howell/co. into studs and departs next year for a HC gig after saving Ron's ass.

That report about prospective owners contacting Payton about a potential HC gig here is a red flag though - new owner might not care to wait on Ron.

Roman is well qualified and would do a good job here.

All things considered I think we're pretty lucky to have EB and GR at the top of our list.

I have to agree with you here. For me it's another example of RR really trying to get this thing going. He could have taken the easy route with Shurmer / Zampese, but he cast a wide net, interviewed nine candidates, and now the two most qualified candidates (EB & GR) appear to be the favorites to take the position.

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread

Heard Bieniemy has done 17 head coaching job interviews.

I dont see why Roman or EB would take this one year rental job. You come here to grab a bag of cash as you head to retirement or so unproven you have no alt options.

I wouldnt come here if I was EB. Maybe Roman if its looking like its OC for us or some one year consulting job.

Im imagine and hope they just have a very very quiet offseason.

Tank .. tank .. tank.

EB and Roman have about as much going on as the Commanders; both are marriages made in heaven.

Yeah Id like to see him here. Not like I really know any other candidates anyway.

He's seen what it takes to win and if he even just brings that, thats a plus.

EB .. I guess the thinking would be getting in this year sets you up as the no. 1 candidate as HC with new ownership when Rons let go or contract expires. If I was him, I wouldnt come here.

People come here clean, leave tarnished.

The only scenario I see where EB replaces Ron is if he really gets this offense humming, and everything else falls apart. If he gets the offense humming and they win 10+ games, Ron isn't going anywhere. It may propel EB to opportunities elsewhere, but not here.

Anything less than 10 wins and they are all likely done.

i was thinking the same, because the D will probably stay solid

Remember though, as Mooby also alluded to, that the potential owners already want an upgrade at HC.
