Is it any wonder why the DC fan base has mostly left? I was sick of this shit 15 years ago…we still dealing with it
Now you can add this: Tuesday afternoon - Rivera backtracked and said Howell isn't our starter.

I don't have any problem with his statement:

“He’s not our starter. He’s coming in as QB1 and he’ll get a chance to be the starter.”

That's what he's said from the start.

I mean I think it's a fair take on every position on every team, but it's definitely a reasonable position for a 2nd year guy, with 1 start.

As a Howell sunshine pumper, I still never felt differently. I just don't want to trade away picks to try to upgrade. Sign a couple guys, draft a couple guys, or 1 of each, and let all 3 compete.

I think he's good enough, that you can bring in competition thru FA and the draft, without losing picks. And he will beat those guys out.

Basically, next year, I think Howell will be a top 20 NFL QB. That's an improvement over 2022, and he will only get better, with still 2 more rookie year costs after 2023.

This is a nothing-burger and it is just coach-speak.

I disagree. As a big fan of anointing people, I think Howell should be next in line. Did you see that dub against the Cowboys? Christ on a cracker what a performance. It wasn't even close! Who was the last Manders starter to beat the Cowboys by 3 scores? Crown his ass Ron.

Not really. QB -1 in February, before free agency, the draft, and camp even begin is nothing more than a designation. Week one starter wont be named until August.
It is Sams job to lose, but he could lose it.

Still an advantage for Sam. Would have to really be outplayed to lose the job.

If Richardson looks good throwing the ball at the combine alot of eyes are going to be on him, including our staff. Im rooting for Sam because of what Chief alluded to. It is just a pick we can use elsewhere if he balls out but I want the best possible quarterback out there week 1 and if Richardson looks great during all this hoopla and is there at 16 decisions would have to be made. Nothing wrong with having two good young quarterbacks on board.

Richardson is nowhere near ready to play NFL. We have to accept the fact that there is a small chance of drafting a rookie QB who can start this year. We aren’t in the position to draft the top QB in the draft and this year’s QB class isn’t exactly strong. If we are drafting for long term plans then I can understand the idea of drafting a rookie QB such as Richardson, but Rivera isn’t in the position to do that. He has to prove himself to the new owner, especially when he had mediocre seasons in the last 3 years.

The only FA QB I would start over Howell is Garoppolo. If we can sign him then great, we have a new starter. If we could trade for Rodgers, then we have a new QB (I don’t like this idea but I can see Rivera going for it). If not one of those twos, it’s Howell. There is no other better option. Simple as that.

I hope Wentz catches on somewhere. Obvious choice is Carolina. The hit job done on him by Indy was wrong. Wentz is a good guy and all, he just can't play QB very well and is probably best suited as a back-up.

If he wants to continue as a strictly back-up QB, he will definitely be able to play somewhere. I don't think he's a top 32 QB, but he's a top 64 QB.

He's made a ton of coin tho. If I was in his shoes, I'd retire. I think we just paid him like 28 million for 1 year. Say taxes are half. You put that 14 million in a basic savings account, you're Gucci forever. That doesn't even take into account all the money he made before 2022.
