The teams (and coaches) that struggle to win, or have back to back winning seasons, are the teams (and coaches) who have been unable to find a better than average QB, or get better than average play from their QB. The QB makes all the difference.
Ron had Cam Newton for nine seasons. Three of those seasons he had injury issues. They went to the playoffs four times. The other two seasons were his first two years on the league. Ultimately Ron's W/L record isn't that great, and he has to own it. I just think it's too easy to call him a bad coach by looking at just the record, and not taking into account everything that contributed to that, or acknowledging the great seasons he was able to put together when he had the pieces, and a good healthy QB. |
