Re: Cowboys/Redskins in the first round?
i'm confused because it also says that a team can win it's division by head to head , even if it has a worse divisional record than another team within the same division.:frusty:
in other words it's saying that the skins could have a division record of 2-4 ,while dallas has a division record of 4-2. the skins would win the division because their 2 division victories were against dallas. makes no sense.

----------------------------------------------- But as i said if a team has beaten ALL ALL ALL of the others competing for the wildcard with the same overall record they get in for sure or if they have lost to ALL ALL ALL the others competing for the wildcard with the same overall ranking they don't get in. http://www.nfl.com/standings/tiebreakers TO BREAK A TIE FOR THE WILD-CARD TEAM If it is necessary to break ties to determine the two Wild-Card clubs from each conference, the following steps will be taken. 1. If the tied clubs are from the same division, apply division tie breaker. 2. If the tied clubs are from different divisions, apply the following steps. ........... Three or More Clubs (Note: If two clubs remain tied after third or other clubs are eliminated, tie breaker reverts to step 1 of applicable two-club format.) 1. Apply division tie breaker to eliminate all but the highest ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. The original seeding within a division upon application of the division tie breaker remains the same for all subsequent applications of the procedure that are necessary to identify the two Wild-Card participants. 2. Head-to-head sweep. (Applicable only if one club has defeated each of the others or if one club has lost to each of the others.) 3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference. 4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four. 5. Strength of victory. 6. Strength of schedule. 7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed. 8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed. 9. Best net points in conference games. 10. Best net points in all games. 11. Best net touchdowns in all games. 12. Coin toss sheesh i was beginning to doubt myself. I should learn not to do that. SO in conclusion Wolfe is right. Dallas did not "SWEEP" us and carolina so they go because of conference record ............... .................... I THINK? no no no I am pretty sure...? it would make perfect sense to me. why declare a team the winner of a division if its division record is worse than the team it swept. thats why there are more than two teams in a division. example: skins 10-6, 4-2 in the division dallas 10-6, 3-3 in the division philly 10-6, 3-3 in the division N.Y. 10-6, 2-4 in the division but swept skins N.Y. would win the division. thats why it makes no sense to me.

Re: Cowboys/Redskins in the first round?
Hey, we are currently 9-2 in the NFC and IF we beat Philly we will be 5-1 in the NFC EAST (swept the Cowboys-2, swept the Eagles-2, split with the Giants-1/1) that is why if the ONLY thing we have to do is win...if it comes down to a tie with another team (record-wise), we are dominant in the division and WE WIN....

Re: Cowboys/Redskins in the first round?
So if a team beats another team TWICE it shouldnt matter (even with same overall record) as long as the other has better DIVISIONAL rec? I am so glad you dont control the playoff tiebreakers......You beat a team TWICE i hope NFL considers you as better team ( as long as same overall record that is)

just because you beat a team twice does not make you the better of the two teams for the playoffs, it just means that you have that teams number(so to speak) just because you beat a team twice should not be the reason you win the division, if you lose to everyone else in the division. once again, thats why there are more than 2 teams in a division. yea you might beat a team twice but lose to all the other teams, while i lose twice to you but beat all the other teams, my team should be the best team in the division, i beat everyone except you but you could'nt beat anyone but me. were talking about winning a division here, being the best out of a group, were not talking about being able to beat one particular team within that group.
