Agree that nothing compares to the MAGA crowd and their delusions about the election being stolen. That said I blame Gore more than anyone for the predicament the US is in. In 1960 Nixon could have contested the election (and had very reason to do so, even more than Gore in 2000) but thought it would be too divisive and could tear the country apart. Gore faced that same choice and chose the action that has been tearing the country apart ever since. The Bush-Gore election challenge juiced partisanship into hyper-partisanship that never abated, Trump and MAGA are the end result.

Former President Donald Trump reportedly shared details about America’s nuclear submarine program with an Australian billionaire, who then went on to tell journalists, foreign officials and others about the sensitive information, according to multiple reports.

ABC News first reported that special counsel Jack Smith had learned about Trump’s disclosure to the billionaire — a cardboard magnate named Anthony Pratt — as part of his investigation into the former president’s handling of classified documents. Trump allegedly told Pratt several government secrets about the submarines during an event at his Mar-a-Lago club and residence in Florida, where the billionaire is a member.

Pratt reportedly told prosecutors and FBI agents that he brought up the submarine fleet in April 2021, after Trump had left the White House. The former president then revealed the supposed number of nuclear warheads that are on board U.S. submarines at any time and how close the vessels can get to a Russian submarine without detection.

The billionaire, ABC News added, shared that information with at least 45 people, including three former Australian prime ministers, a half dozen journalists and other foreign officials. Australia recently inked a deal with the United States to spend up to $245 billion over the next three decades to build a fleet of nuclear-powered submarines

Former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti said that the interview suggests the “investigation is wrapping up and that Biden’s legal team is not concerned about any potential criminal charges.”

“Unlike Trump, Biden sat for a two-day interview. He wouldn’t have done that if he had potential criminal exposure,” he wrote.

National security attorney Mark Zaid pointed out that Biden and former Vice President Mike Pence, who also returned classified documents after discovering them when he left office, avoided the same kind of legal trouble Trump now finds himself in.

Engoron questioned Trump on the witness stand Wednesday about comments he made outside the courtroom that appeared in violation of a gag order imposed to keep him from disparaging the judge’s staff, Reuters reported.

During a break earlier on Wednesday, Trump told reporters, “This judge is a very partisan judge with a person who is very partisan sitting alongside of him, perhaps even much more partisan than he is.”

In court, Engoron’s clerk, who Trump attacked in a social media post that later resulted in a $5,000 fine, sits next to him.

Engoron asked who he was referring to with his latest comments. “You and Cohen,” Trump responded.

Engoron was not impressed. "As the trier of fact, I find the witness is not credible," he said, and issued a $10,000 fine.

After that, Trump angrily stormed out of the courtroom and the trial then continued.

Engoron, earlier on Wednesday, admonished Trump’s lawyers over remarks the former president made outside the courtroom, the Associated Press reported.

Kise responded that Trump was referring to Cohen, who delivered testimony from the witness stand a short distance from where the judge sits.

Why it matters: Engoron, who has now twice fined Trump for violating the gag order, has also threatened to jail him if the attacks continue. Wednesday’s altercation was yet another test of his patience.
