Around the League - Week 16

Falcons coach noncommittal on Kirk Cousins starting vs. Giants

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...ting-vs-giants

Falcons made a terrible decision giving Cousins that contract.

And it was weird they drafted Pennix. But that might be their saving grace. Cousins will get all the money but their actual QB will be on a rookie contract.

- Posted this before seeing Chico's basic exact same post. But it's Tuesday, so it is officially Week 16.

I read that they benched him. Penix will start vs the Giants.

Kirk is done in Atlanta. The writing was on the wall when they drafted Penix. You don't do that for him to sit on the bench. Really bad signing by Atlanta.

Wonder what's next for him? I doubt at this stage in his career he'd want to be a back-up to Penix. Wonder if he tries to hook up w/ Kyle? Or retires?

Some desperate team will sign him to be bridge qb but will he take the pay cut. No one is going to pay him big bucks anymore and at best he would be a short term starter until a young qb is drafted and groomed.

He may not want that.

Re: Around the League - Week 16

He had a quick, sudden decline this year regarding Cousins. He was balling out earlier this year with a huge comeback at Philly on MNF and putting up over 500 yds passing v. Atlanta in 1 game. Interested to see what Penix can do. He was nearly flawless last year at UW until the Michigan game.

I liked Penix. Glad we get atleast one game tape on him. Giants have a decent d-line so they should put some pressure on him. This immediately makes Atlanta more of a threat next week

Giants and Falcons could be interesting. Still quite surprised Daboll hasn't been fired. Guess the owner doesn't want to mess with it right now lol. NFL eyes will be on Penix in this game.

One of the few times I want to see the Giants win (plus it would help scupper them getting the #1 pick). Be interesting to see what happens when Lattimore shuts down London...

How long has it been since Washington has had a real shutdown corner? Bailey? Smoot was pretty good. Man, I hope Lattimore can assume this role for this team now and long term. I forgot how valuable of a defensive weapon this can be.

Hall is probably the most recent pro bowl caliber corner, Springs before that.

I think they wanted Penix to sit and learn not to start nearly this soon. I mean why would they give Kirk that big deal if they want Penix to be the starter.

Re: Around the League - Week 16

If Kirk was playing well this wouldn't be an issue right now, they gladly would have shelved Penix all season. Kirk's bad play has forced their hand.

If Carlos Rogers hands were not made of stone he would have been too. He was a great cover corner.

He sure was. Very frustrating with how many dropped INTs he had.
