I think they made a decision based on the fact that Ridgeway is more of a pass rushing DT vs. Mathis being more of a run stopping DT. Also, if you had enough pass rushing DTs and you can get compensation for Ridgeway, you take that.

In hindsight it was a good move, since I believe that round pick that was acquired from the Ridgeway trade, was used in the Lattimore trade.
