Per PFT:

When receiver D.K. Metcalf was traded to the Steelers, he received a new contract. The five-year, $150 million deal replaces the final year of his prior contract, at $18 million. The new-money average, then, is $33 million per year.

This is a huge reason why it is doubtful that the Terry extension gets done. Steelers basically overpaid for Metcalf. Terry believes, as do many, that he is the superior wr and wants to be compensated as such. Not going to happen with his age. Firmly believe Peters will work with Terry some on the numbers but not to his total demands.

look at the structure of the deal, the last two years are fake. 23m + 5m roster bonus and 30.5m with 5m roster bonus (no guarantees) - that's 63.5m he's never going to see. in 3 years his cash earnings from that deal will be 86.5m. I'm not going to count garbage. If that's the game, let's give terry 200m non-guaranteed on year 4 and he can average 50m/year while making $0.

OK I guess you know more than Pro Football Talk and former attorney and editor Mike Florio. Every other site is reporting his salary at 33 million average. This is what Terry wants to exceed which Peters won't provide. He will play under his current contract or sit.

instead of being dismissive, why not try to actually understand what people are saying. that link has his contract breakdown, it also says 33m average, but that's a pointless, garbage number. Click on the cash breakdown. after 3 years, he'll have ACTUALLY put 86.5m IN HIS POCKET. His REAL earnings are slightly under 29m/year (over the first 3 years, which is the only money he's ever going to see from this).

Inflating the contract value with money he's never going to get doesn't change that; it's not real.

You are literally trying to argue a point I NEVER made. My original post clearly said AVERAGE annual salary reported by Schefter, yahoo sports, bleacher report and other credible sites. Please read my entire post before you reply. I never said about what DK may or may not see as you seem to have that figured out. His contract was for 4 years not 3. I suppose you are clairvoyant and know he'll only play 3 years for Pittsburgh. Spotrac has the exact same 33 million dollar salary.

D.K. Metcalf signed a 4 year, $132,000,000 contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, including $30,000,000 signing bonus, $60,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $33,000,000.

Terry may sing a different tune real quick if Peters offers more than 33 million AVERAGE as Schefter was saying.
