i think seattle will make a big effort to resign jurevicius. he was one of the prime saviors of their season. when jackson went down and warrick turned out to be a bust, he and engram carried the receiver corps. he came up big time and time again. not only was he a possession receiver, but he also made some big long gains. his pass completion over rogers on the improvised play against the skins was just another example of how he and hasselbeck were really on the same page. he will not be expensive to resign (i would guess) and seattle should make an effort to get him.

bryant is another matter. he has a world of talent but was so immature even parcells could not tolerate him. the question is what player you would get. to spent a lot of money on him is rolling the dice. the question would be whether he implodes again. i would rather the team go after someone less risky or, inthe case of koren robinson, someone who is likely not to cost as much as bryant is looking to get. on the other hand, except in the playoffs
plaxico burress came up huge for the giants. is that what someone would get from bryant? or from robinson? that is why wideouts are so risky

i am not being unfairly critical but i do think that in retrospect the front office really misjudged the receiver corps this year-- and the offense paid for it the last portion of the season. even before he went down, patten was far from an impact player. he is no legitimate number 2. they also grossly misjudged what jacobs was capable of accomplishing. they thought thrash would be able to step up to the number 2 slot if needed. they realized they had little in mccants, but by then it was too late.

i do not think they will make the same mistake again this offseason, but there is no getting around the fact that they assembled an inadequate receiver corps this year.

patten was starting to get better before he got hurt, jacobs was already on the team and they had to give him a chance, and thrash was always hurt....but when u have moss and cooley, i dont see how u could say they misjudged the receiving corps

well, hindsight is 20/20 and the proof is in the results... it is kind of like what happened when spurrier assembled all those florida receivers and the consensus was that they were a bunch of stiffs. that is exactly what they proved out to be.
my point is simply that sometimes the prevailing wisdom is correct. the skins had a false optimism about the receiving corps. jacobs had never shown anything before that was anything close to proof that he could be an nfl receiver. thrash was found totally wanting by the eagles who were desperate for a number 1 or 2 receiver in years past. patten was the most expendable member of a new england receiving corps that looks better because of the excellence of tom brady. whom did they have that had proven he could be a reliable #2 receiver? no one.. that is exactly how it played out.

I think if you said one of the two new WR's[Moss or Patten ] would have the season Moss had they[FO] would have taken it. To have a trade for Moss go so well....so far! Is much more then anyone could have guessed. All the talking heads said that Moss was over paid by the Redskins and the Jets got the better end of the deal. Gibbs has away of finding WR's like Clark[I believe USFL] or Sanders in the draft! What about C.Brown or the Great Monk? Gibbs see the free agent market as just another part of the draft. As for what the Redskins had coming in Gibbs knew at the end of 04 season he need to up grade. They did there best with what was out there. Remember cost is a big factor and getting Moss for Coles did cost money. Yes I think the FO did reached on Patten but I still believe is a good 3rd WR. Would you give a 3rd round pick for lets say Rams WR Kevin Curtis? There is so many ways to go its just getting it done.

i see no reason to pay a 3rd rounder for curtis' services. there are quite a few players who would not cost a pick inthe draft. if we were going to go after a RFA, lloyd would be a better option. still, i think a guy like reggie wayne or david givens would be a better option. also, moulds if he is released.

lloyd is nowhere close to kevin curtis. Wayne and moulds will cost too much and you railed against patten but now you want to try another NE WR?

also you said something about patten not being a #2, but without a full year it'd be hard to tell (once he left our passing numbers dropped by 86 yards a game though, even with brunells two terrible games late, that is pretty stark). I agree that we need 2-3 more WRs though (between KR, KC, or maybe grabbing S moss, and bring in a min salary guy like reche C cause he's better than 4 of the guys we had playing WR this year)
.

respectfully disagree with you on lloyd versus curtis. i would not complain with either but i think lloyd has a far greater up side. he is bigger, faster and more athletic.

comparing givens to patten is similar only in that they both came from new england. givens is bigger, stronger but not as quick. patten is very fast but small. he is also much older than givens

i liked the signing of patten, but the truth is that he is better suited forthe number 3 receiver. we need a number 2 with size and strength. also, brunell never seemed to be looking for patten or he could never find him.
just whose fault was that? pattens? brunells? i do not know, but it was obvious this year even before patten went out
