Re: Sean Taylor's Legal Situation
One thing I learned from Taylor's Virginia traffic stop is to hear the whole story before passing judgement. In that case, the judge found that the charges were unsupported by the facts. The Virginia trooper's own video cam showed that Taylor passed the sobriety tests and was neither disrespectful nor resisting arrest. All the charges were dropped.
But Taylor keeps finding himself in these pickles when he should know better. When I was a younger man, a little kid told me it was easier to stay out of trouble than than to get out of trouble. I liked the way that was put. Sean doesn't try to duck trouble. He runs headlong to it. That's going to burn him someday. If not in this incident, then later. Without Taylor, the defensive middle if very vulnerable. And Ryan Clark becomes more valuable. |

Re: Sean Taylor's Legal Situation
Sean Taylor is the baddest, most talented defender to ever play in the league. And his thug demanor adds to the excitement of watching him play. He is without a doubt my favorite athlete.
If he goes to jail, the Redskins will have a tough time trying to be a super bowl team next year. he is a phenomenal player.

i think his play speaks for itself... the thug element has nothing to do with why we watch him on the field. |

Re: Sean Taylor's Legal Situation
Very sad indeed, he just doesnt have enough exposure yet. But he is the most electrifying defensive player in the league.

Re: Sean Taylor's Legal Situation
i think the media hype surrounding him adds to the allure of watching. The way Wilbon talks about him in that one article, most NFL WR's reading that are going to get chills going down their spine.
"An NFL quarterback who played against the Redskins this season told me that Taylor can be taken advantage of on certain kinds of plays, but otherwise he's often the baddest man on the field. He can run like Jerry Rice and hit like Night Train Lane, and if he does hit you a little too far out of bounds or just a little late after the whistle, then so be it. Receivers don't remember penalty flags; they remember writhing on the ground in agony. Have you noticed that more receivers are dropping balls against the Redskins than in previous seasons? That's largely because they're distracted by the presence of Sean Taylor. Yes, there are players who are afraid of Taylor, just like they were afraid of Lane and Jack Tatum and Ronnie Lott and Dick Butkus. Taylor will mangle you. Any coach worth the chalk he uses to diagram plays loves that from his free safety. And they love that he's a roughneck with that 1970s Raiders sort of mentality, a thug persona. When other football players say -- and believe me, they say it privately -- that Taylor has that thuggish quality, they're saying it half in admiration, half in fear. No team wants to quiet that entirely. We see Taylor as being in trouble. In football, it's thought that he is trouble."

Re: Sean Taylor's Legal Situation
While admittedly not knowing what the evidence consists of, I hope he just takes a Jamal Lewis plea and spends a few months in the big house over the offseason and returns come September.

Re: Sean Taylor's Legal Situation
Also, people please don't overreact to the 46 years in jail thing. There's NO WAY he'd do that much time if convicted. If you think 46 years is a possibility, then you are allowing yourself to be sensationalized by the media.
Each of the 3 counts of aggravated assault are for a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 15. Then the simple battery is for up to one year. So if he served the max for all 4 counts against him, ONE AFTER THE OTHER AFTER THE OTHER, he'd serve 46 years. WHEN DOES THIS EVER HAPPEN? It doesn't. First, if he gets convicted, he'll serve all of the sentences concurrently. Secondly, there's no way he'll serve the max 15 years. I mean come on, people guilty of manslaughter don't end up serving 46 years in our judicial system. |

Re: Sean Taylor's Legal Situation
Personally I believe they decieded to make the charges individual charges to offset the fact that they tried to plea bargain with Taylor and were rejected, in so doing weakend their case, so to pump up the chargers their essentially trying to present that their case is much bigger and stronger than originally thought when they had offered a plea bargain. when all they have is the same evidence and the same circumstances as they had before, they have just rearanged the charges to make it look worse now than it was when they made their offer. As other have stated they are SENSATIONALIZING this case as damage control for their plea bargain rejection.
