Re: Holmgren
I would refer everyone to post #10. If that article is wrong, then fine - point it out. However, it says Holmgren and Cowher met up, so this is really a non-issue.

truly an overrated coach for the big game. he was hurt by his players droppping passes. he was hurt by the penalties and bad calls. but he really stunk as head coach |

i posted this in another thread but i'll post it again in this one. holmgren out coached bill cower last night. the seahawks came out gunning, they moved the ball at will against the steelers defense. the seahawks defense held pitt. to NO first downs the entire first quarter, they caused big ben to have the worse qb rating ever for a sb winning qb. jeremy stevens and the pittsburge refferees were the reasons behind seattle's short commings. the only thing holmgren did wrong was call a running play with little time left at the end of the first half and punt the ball back to pitt. with 6 minutes remaining in the game. other than those two mistakes he called a great game . you can't blame holmgren for his TE dropping passes and for those horrible refs. all that confussion at the end of the first half was hasselback's fault, he was trying to audible to a different play.

stevens sucked, but they kept throwing to him anyways. If holmgren really did outcoach the steelers, he'd have a ring right now. |

Re: Holmgren
Steelers won. Handshake is traditional show of gratitude if nothing else for the cameras and the fans. I think it's real lame of Holmgren not to shake hands. Sure its a spectacle after the gun, but other coaches have shaken hands under far worse outcomes. Holmgren prospered in a division with STL 6-10, AZ 5-11 and San Fran 4-12. So 6 wins come off that piss poor division. Won't interject here that the Redskins and the Seahawks tied in NFC wins/losses, but I will say that Seattle had an easy home road to the SB while Pittsburgh played their #6 seed spot on the road since the wildcard game. Jeremy Stevens? Bust. Alexander (even thought league MVP: proved he's a nonfactor in post season play) will be gone next season. Hasselbeck glad to have an appearance in the SB, he'll never see those days again. Holmgren should be replaced after the easiest season in his career not being able to show up in the big game. Sure the offensive interference call was bs but how many games have a call or 2 that is purely human error? All of them! Did Ben get in? Ref couldn't tell til he saw the ball and replay was honestly inconclusive. Seattle was overrated and deserved to be exposed by the hand of a #6 seed team that beat Denver and Indy on the road in the playoffs. Booyah! Seattle will not win their division next season and perhaps won't see a wildcard birth either. Toast to another 'pretender' being shown out; ie the Philadelphia Eagles.

Re: Holmgren
I agree the steelers won, but what makes you think seattle won't win their division? their D is young and uner contract (dbs arent great), but there's no gaping holes and the other teams in their division will be awful next year too. 6 wins a year helps you get in the playoffs.

Re: Holmgren
On another Holmgren note, ESPN radio reporting, apparently Holgren called out the officiating of the game stating, (to paraphrase) "playing the Steelers was tough enough. I didn't know we would be playing the officiating staff as well". That will be expensive!

Re: Holmgren
Poor Holmgren. He felt slighted. Every team that lost in the playoffs feels slighted. GET OVER IT! YOU LOST! TRY AGAIN NEXT YEAR!

http://www.nfl.com/nflnetwork/story/9214984 "Nobody saw Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren and Steelers coach Bill Cowher shake hands after Super Bowl X-tra L-arge, but nobody should interpret it as a rift. It was more a miscommunication. The two coaches were supposed to meet at the 25-yard line. Holmgren went to one 25-yard line, Cowher to the other, and they never got to engage in the traditional hand-shaking act that most coaches do after every game. While they each waited and looked for the other, the madness and grandiosity of the game swallowed them. Nobody was going to find anybody at that time. Finally, Holmgren opted to head to the locker room. Later, in the Seahawks locker room, the two coaches caught up with other, with Holmgren congratulating Cowher on joining the fraternity of Super Bowl winning coaches. With nobody watching, the two shook hands and spoke. Not only was there no feud between the two, but it's just the opposite. The two really like each other, so much so that after each won the conference championship, they spoke on the telephone and congratulated each other."

Holmgren did a good job in the first 28 minutes. The last 32 are another story entirely.

did i ever say he coached a perfect game ? i don't think i ever said that. what i did say was that holmgren had a good gameplan that was screwed up by bad officiating and poor play from his TE. in my opinion, holmgren made two mistakes that really stood out to me, 1- i did not like that he called a running play at the end of the 1st half with little time left on the clock. (this was the play right before the one were hasselback kept trying to audible and as a result wasted a ton of time) 2- i did not like holmgrens decision to punt the ball back to the steelers with around 6 minutes left in the game. other than that, i don't recall any real bad decisions by holmgren. maybe there are a few i forgot, can you point out any others ?
