Another good way to prevent Spyware is to use FireFox. There is a huge debate as why it is more secure than Internet Explorer, but I mainly feel that people are not writing viruses and spyware to be able to execute through it.
I love the tab browsing feature and it works at 99% of the web sites I visit. Check it out at http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/
