ESPN.COM Page 2 Columnist Ralph Wiley Dies

This is very sad. Wiley was an excellent columnist and commentator and a great person. He really made you think and took sports stories to a deeper, sometimes more controversial level.

wow, was he sick or did he just drop dead?

Either way that's sad.

He died of heart failure, not sure if he had a condition or a sudden attack

(PS: Sorry for inadvertently editing your post, I put it back to the way it was)

I've been a devoted Page 2 reader from its inception, and while I was very familiar with Ralph Wiley beforehand I came to really admire the guy. First, he's from Memphis, TN and I have to admit I can be a homer. Second, once I started reading his columns I never stopped. The Sports Guy may be why I started reading Page 2, but Wiley is why I kept on reading. Perhaps the main reason why I liked Wiley is because he always seemed like the kind of sports reporter to answer your email and even ask you a question. He seemed more like a regular guy, just geniune and willing to call it like it is rather than forcing his opinion. If you have time I highly recommend his archived page, you may not agree with his views but you'll definitely enjoy the read.

Was listening to Mike and Mike in the morning on Monday. They were kinda ragging on Wiley for some comments that he had made, not knowing that he had died. The discussion simply stopped and this morning they came on and said they stopped because they had been informed during the middle of the show that he had died.
