he averaged 24yard/game moss got 30 more yard/game before his injury other receivers got 8 more yards/game before his injury than after TEs got 10 more yard/game receiving before his injury RBs got 14 more yard/game receiving before his injury that's 86 extra receiving yards a game. people are so eager to send him down river, but he really did help others get open (especially moss, cooley, and portis). I think if he's back even as the #2, you'll see better production of the passing game. He's somebody you have to keep cause he's WAY better than anyone else we've got (barring moss). |

You can also see that Portis' workload increased dramatically once defenses were able to key on Santana and Cooley. That's doesn't mean that Patten can magically manifest an extra 40 yards a game of rushing by His Mere Presence. It just means the coaching staff adjusted their game plan. Look, I'm not saying Patten is horrible. He's a serviceable veteran who's capable of catching a few footballs. I just don't buy this whole "Patten's our WR2 and this year when he's healthy he's going to kick ass" line of debate. There's just nothing in his recent game performances or statlines that provide any reason to think that he's going to suddenly become some badass, game breaking WR2. And for that reason, I think we absolutely need to sign someone who *can* provide that kind of threat. |
