the cards did the right thing. they need an RB, that's the guy to get. now they can pick up another WR in the 1st round

Except that if you franchise a guard they use the top tackle contracts to determine the salary. Obviously, the Seahawks didn't want to pay 2 of the top 5 salaries in the league on their O-line.

the difference was under 700k between the transition and franchise tags for an OG according to an nfl.com article about the subject.
