Re: Who starts at QB?

well, Adam Schefter reported that Campbell is gonna be our #3 because he still isn't ready yet, so for the time being this is brunell's job.

When did Schefter say this? I don't see any way that Campbell is not at least our #2 by August.

I believe it was this afternoon. I was watching total access, about the time culpepper was traded to miami, and he was talking about qb movings and such around the league. I thought that Campbell would be our #2 this season too, that's why i'm not positively sure this true, but i do remember him saying that "sources say that campbell is not ready to be a #2 at this point".

I don't think this report by Shefter is the least bit accurate. Gibbs gave a glowing review of Campbell's progress when the season ended, and has told him that next year he better be ready to earn his keep.

I don't think there's any way Campbell will be the #3 this year. No way in hell. I think it's quite possible that Campbell is ready to START, not just be the 2nd stringer.

I don't trust Schefter's "sources". He doesn't have a reputation for being a great NFL insider. If Mort was saying this, I might buy into it a little more. But I think this is complete bullcrap.

Gibbs would not give a glowing review of Campbell if he wasn't ready to step it up next season. Gibbs doesn't make things up like that. He follows the "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all policy." With Ramsey he often finds little nice to say, and instead dances around the questions. He doesn't do that with Campbell, he has plenty of nice things to say.

really? so i guess that means that jacobs really is an amazing receiver after all, and that royal is a super smart guy fighting his guts out and has great hands. or that brunell (circa 2004) wasn't doing anything at all wrong, even though he couldn't hit wide open guys 6 yards down the field.

gibbs has a bad habit of publicly blowing sh*t up his player's @$$es on a regular basis. people just believe it cause they want to.

I hope campbell is amazing, but being talked up by this staff is worthless and means nothing based on past experiences.

I don't remember Gibbs ever saying that Jacobs was a great receiver, I remember him saying that he had a lot of potential. You'll have to show me that comment. Royal did fight his guts out, worked really hard, and had good hands except for that one game. Gibbs just didn't mention the things that limit him, like his speed, strength, and agility which affects blocking skills. But Royal did work really hard. Brunell circa 2004 wasn't doing anything wrong man, it was his injury causing the problems. That's what Gibbs was getting at with that comment.

He doesn't blow smoke. He chooses his comments very carefully. He says positive things when he can, and doesn't talk about the players' limitations.

His comments regarding Campbell have pretty much covered the gamut of every skill and attribute you'd want in your QB. It was glowing.
