It's all about speed now. A big WR is useless if he can't run. That's why TO's still dangerous and McCants and Rod Gardner just stink. a few years ago CBs were allowed to maul WRs all the way down the field (the panthers were the worst offenders and rode WR abuse to the SB). at the time big receivers were necessary cause they took less injuries and could use strength to break away.

now with the 5 yard rule actually being called, being big helps more in the red zone than in the open field, which is how it should be.

Yes, I agree and that all makes a ton of sense. Also defenses are dictating even more than they could have imagined back in the day. With the Pats 3-4, you have no idea what's going on, just like our defense when we do double fire CB blitzes and 9 man blitzes with Springs and Rodgers on an island.
