Re: Grade Rocky McIntosh

Schneed -- The great thing abouit the draft is normal fans like us can look at a player, see something we love about it, get high on him (even though others may not be) and both sides have an equal chance of being right. I feel every player (just about) through the 3rd round can be a quality starter in this league if they're put into a situation that fits them. Can't fit a square peg into a round hole, and some teams try to do that.

Granted, coaches have more resources available to them, but this would be a boring chat board if everyone here sat around sucking Gibbs off.

Re: Grade Rocky McIntosh

I love the pick, but the trade was not so good. It seemed like a very steep price to pay. They basically spent two #2 picks for Rocky.

The problem the Redskins always run into is that they are always trading future draft picks and future draft picks are not worth as much. If they had a full compliment of picks yesterday they could have traded from those to get up there.

Re: Grade Rocky McIntosh

Celts32,

"Whether we selected him at #53 or #35 our next pick would have been a 5th rounder.

Again here is the draft breakdown vs. NFLdraftblitz.com's value chart

Quote:
Pick #35 550 points
Pick #53 370 points

That is a difference of 180 points

If you value next year's second as a third at the same position you are picking this year that is pick #85 which equals 165 points

This year's 6th (189) is 16.8 points

We gave up a total of 551.8 draft value points for a pick worth 550 draft value points. That is about as even as you can get and we got a player at a need position for us that can start right away.

McIntosh was listed in the top 40 players by many scouts and with Thomas Howard going at #38, a player rated lower then McIntosh, Rocky would have been gone at #53, and probably Howard as well as there is a big drop off in talent at LBer after him.

This was a great pick at a position of great need and a great trade to get him."

Is Danny really the man behind the curtain of the Jets organization?

And by the way, I feel like some of you: damn, I wish we didn't give up another high pick next year. But I can at least take some comfort in justifying that what we have given up (with cap space, player/draft trades) has gotten us some great returns (of investment).

We're looking good for next year's draft as of right now, and our team is on average at a prime age.

Re: Grade Rocky McIntosh

Looks like a good pick to fill a hole that needed filling. It will be interesting to see if he starts. Greg Williams is not known for starting rookies ie: Taylor.
If he does start that makes a serious statement about how they really feel about Clemmons and Holdman.

Re: Grade Rocky McIntosh

I gave him a B, because of what I have read on the internet and that he filled a need and our original sought after player to fill what appears to be the Weak Side. Also you have to give a plus for what he will add as a guy from the U and Portis weekly skits. That is something all the analyst left out when they evaluated what he brings to our team, nothing about Midweek costumes and his role in topping last years. See what I mean the damn anaylst do not know anything about this team.

McIntosh scored a 31, not a 29, on his wonderlic, the highest score of any of this year's rookie linebackers.

Wow, I say make him the QB and Campbell an OLB.

Re: Grade Rocky McIntosh

The problem with giving up so much is the fact that at the time we made the trade 3 OLB's were available Howard, Alston, and Mcintosh, I honestly prefered the first 2 over Rocky, and would have had alston as my first priority, and yes he was available at 53. Rocky may turn out to be a decent LB but he is not going to be a great LB or a pro-bowler, but servicable. I just feel we gave up far to much for a LB of his caliber.

Re: Grade Rocky McIntosh

I think that everyone is looking at this years draft all wrong. We are putting to much on the whole Rocky pick where we need to look at the draft as a whole.

The "Overall" 2006 Washington Redskins Draft:
Round 1 - QB - Jason Campbell - Auburn (Denver Trade)
Round 2 - OLB - Roger "Rocky" McIntosh - Miami
Round 3 - WR - Brandon Lloyd - Illinois (49er Trade)
Round 4 - QB - Jason Campbell - Auburn (Denver Trade)
Round 5 - DT - Anthony Montgomery - Minnesota
Round 6 - SS - Reed Doughty - Northern Colorado
Round 6 - OLB - Roger "Rocky" McIntosh - Miami (NY Jets Trade)
Round 6 - DT - Kedric Golston - Georgia
Round 7 - G - Kili Lefotu - Arizona
Round 7 - ILB - Kevin Simon - Tennessee

Some may say that we gave up to much for Campbell and McIntosh, but looking at it what are the chances that who ever we would have picked up in the 4th and 6th round would have made the team anyway? Now next years 2nd round pick which essentially is also used for Rocky is another story, but like this year if we have another good year our 2nd round pick could be at the tail end of the 2nd round which would almost be like the begining of the 3rd round.

Either way I am glad with the team we have and the draft choices we made. I am looking forward to this season with somewhat high expectations...

Re: Grade Rocky McIntosh

Redskins 8588, you're double-counting Jason Campbell and Rocky McIntosh. Did you go to the Arthur Anderson School of Accounting?

J/K I realize what you were getting at. Good points.
