Draft Grade?

I did not follow the NFL Draft quite as closely this year. I felt that our needs were met by the addition of Al Saunders, and of course the FAs we signed.
Lloyd was also a worthy pick-up, and will make our receiving corps extremely versitile, attacking from all sides!

I printed two mock drafts, and just left them on my desk. Both had multiple rounds, and both had Rocky McIntosh to the Redskins at 53. It could be argued that we could have gotten him without moving up, but, there was this run on LBs, and the Redskins FO already had a plan in place in case there was just such a scenario. So, moving up 18 spots was a wash.

To my amazement, I also found our first reported FA Spencer Havner, ILB from UCLA there in the Fourth round of one of the Mocks!


Now, the two Mocks could have changed at the last minute, just before the draft, but I printed last Wednesday. Here are the links:

We gave up a total of 551.8 draft value points for a pick worth 550 draft value points. That is about as even as you can get and we got a player at a need position for us that can start right away.



McIntosh was listed in the top 40 players by many scouts and with Thomas Howard going at #38, a player rated lower then McIntosh, Rocky would have been gone at #53, and probably Howard as well as there is a big drop off in talent at LBer after him.

This was a great pick at a position of great need and a great trade to get him."

So, bottom line, we got the guy targeted, at a decent price. And we got some other FB players from what I've read here. Needs were met with FA. Spots were filled with the NFL Draft.


For those who put stock in the "NFL Draft Experts", and those who provide you Post-Draft Grades, you have to balance that with the players HOF Coach Gibbs targets.


In addition, you must add J. Campbell, and B. Lloyd into the mix because of what we gave up to get each of them. So, both should be part of our Draft grade.
