early predictions on 53 man roster

DL (8)
DE: Andre Carter, Daniels, Demetric Evans, Kedric Golston
DT: C. Griffin, J. Salavea, Cedric Killings, Ryan Boschetti

(Reynaldo Wynn, most likely cut; Nic Clemons and Anthony Montgomery compete with Golston for last spot; Golston has power and speed to play both DT/DE, Nic Clemons has the height advantage being 6''6', and Montgomery is a run stuffer; Golston gets the edge due to his potential versatility; Montgomery ends up on the Practice Squad, Nic Clemons could get cut, unless they decide to keep an extra DL and cut back on the secondary)

LB (8)

WLB: R. McIntosh, Warrick Holdman, McCune
ILB: Lemar Marshal, Khary Campbell
Strong Side: Marcus Washington, Spencer Havner

Special Teamer/ Pass Rush specialist: Chris Clemons

(J. Sykes, Kevin Simon compete in training camp for last spot; if they can play in Williams' system, they might be able to beatbeat out Holdman with their Special Teams prowess)

Secondary (9):

CB: Springs, Rogers, Jimoh, Kenny Wright, Dmitri Patterson
Safety: Sean Taylor, A. Archuleta, Pierson Prioleau, R. Doughty

(Dmitri Patterson beats out Christian Morton, only because Dmitri Patterson had a meaningless interception in the Dallas blowout)

------------------------------------------------------------------------

QB (3): Brunell, Campbell, Todd Collins

RB/FB (5): Ports, Betts, Cartwright, Nemo, Manuel White

TE/H-Back (4): Christian Fauria, Cooley, Mike Sellers, Robert Johnson

Buc Ortega and other's compete for TE H-Back positions

OL: (8): Samuels, Dockery, Rabach, Randy Thomas, Jansen, Jim Molinaro, E. Albright and one of the two backups we recently signed (either Pucilio or the other guy)

(New Draft Picks and lineman on last year's practice squad compete for a spot)

WR: (6) Moss, Patten, Lloyd, Randle-El, Jacobs, Thrash

K: John Hall
P: D. Frost

Total: 53

Re: early predictions on 53 man roster

GJ on the list but I disagree with a couple of choices.

Thrash or jacobs: I cant see them keeping 6 WR's even if one is a special teams star. I think jacobs finally gets the boot. Thrash has too many skills to be let go.

H-Back/TE: Who knows what Saunders is going to do. Cooley is too valuable an H-back to not use him but I am concerned about him being a TE. Those positions are not interchangeable. Cooley might not be able to get into his routes with a linebacker right over him. I think we will use Sellers and Rock as fullbacks and Fauria and cooley and one other guy as TE.

Linebackers: I think G.Williams like zak Keasey(the white rasta Ivey league guy). He might bump McCune or even Holdman off the list.

Safety: I think we will have more than 4 safeties. Im thinking a possible 6 but more likely 5 since Williams likes to use His safeties to cover/blitz from the slot.

RB: I think nemo and white are gone. Just not enough spots for those guys since we will carry FB's and H-backs.

Re: early predictions on 53 man roster

Looks like a pretty good/safe prediction...I would look at Frost maybe losing his job to the RC FA we just signed and I wouldn't be sold on Jacobs making the team....and the only other would be the RC FA from Miami taking Johnsons spot at TE....I think our last 3 pics and our RC FA will battle for practice spot positions...

Re: early predictions on 53 man roster

i'll include practice squad. if wynn was going to be cut it'd happen already. he's the best DL backup (ALL positions) we've got, he's happy here, and they like him in the locker room. we're not overcap, so i HIGHLY doubt he's bumped for some rookie 5th round pick. Boschetti kept playing less and less over the course of the year, so I think he's the guy that might get replaced.

hate to be the one to break it to you, but keasey's been a 49er for about two months now.

DT Kendric Golston
OL Kili Lefotu
WR Derrick Fenner

CB Chris Hawkins

boschetti might stay instead of jacobs... this my best guess though. If some of the UDFAs besides the two i put up play out of their minds, Sykes, Havner, Onyenegecha, and Jacobs are the spots they probably take, though i believe we WILL have 9 DBs in the end, regardless of thier names.

Re: early predictions on 53 man roster

Think its a pretty accurate roster cept for maybe 2-3 guys. I think we will keep Jacobs another season. Seems to practice well!?

Re: early predictions on 53 man roster

I think Tyson Walter, Pucillo, Montgomery and maybe even Onyenegecha
are safe bets to make it. Wynn will be there next year. If I had to predict it, I would pull Patterson, Boschetti, Jacobs, Nemo and Holdman from skinsfan's list, adding the aforementioned 5 players.

Re: early predictions on 53 man roster

No way we cut Wynn, and no way we carry 6 WRs. Taylor Jacobs is as good as gone.

Offense:
QBs: Brunell, Campbell, Collins
RBs: Portis, Betts, Cartwright
WRs: Moss, Lloyd, Randle-El, Patten, Thrash
FBs: Sellers
TEs/HBacks: Cooley, Fauria, Johnson, Manny White, Nemo
OL: Jansen, Thomas, Rabach, Dockery, Samuels, Molinaro, Pucillo, Walter
Total: 25

Defense:
D Line: Daniels, Carter, Wynn, Griffin, Salave'a, Evans, Montgomery, Killings
LB: Washington, Marshall, Holdman, McIntosh, Clemons, Campbell, McCune, Havner
CB: Springs, Rogers, Wright, Jimoh, Patterson
S: Taylor, Archuleta, Prioleau, Doughty
Total: 25

Teams:
Frost
Hall
Albright
Total: 3

That's what I'm going with, but I could easily see Jesse Lumsden making the team and bumping Nemo, Manny or Robert Johnson off the list.

Re: early predictions on 53 man roster

I'd say Wynn is almost guaranteed to make the roster - he can play inside and out, and his salary isn't so extravagant these days.

Re: early predictions on 53 man roster

I'm shocked that some people still believe Taylor Jacobs will be on the team this season. He did nothing but prove that he cannot play in the NFL.

1000th post by the way. WooHOO!

Re: early predictions on 53 man roster

My best guess as of 5/3:
Offense:
QBs: M. Brunell, J. Campbell, T. Collins
RBs: C. Portis, L. Betts, R. Cartwright
WRs: S. Moss, B. Lloyd, A. Randle-El, D. Patten, J. Thrash
FBs: M. Sellers
TEs/HBs: C. Cooley, C. Fauria, R. Johnson, M. White,
OL: J. Jansen, R. Thomas, C. Rabach, D. Dockery, C. Samuels, J. Molinaro, M. Pucillo, T. Walter, K. Lefotu

Defense:
D Line: P. Daniels, A. Carter, R. Wynn, C. Griffin, J. Salave'a, D. Evans, A. Montgomery, C. Killings, Golston
LB: M. Washington, L. Marshall, R. McIntosh, C. Clemons, K. Campbell, R. McCune, S. Havner
CB: S. Springs, C. Rogers, K. Wright, A. Jimoh, C. Onyenegecha
S: S.Taylor, A. Archuleta, P. Prioleau, Doughty

Others:
Frost
John Hall
Ethan Albright

I would not be shocked to see us aquire a TE over the next month or so, and Ron Johnson would be the odd man out.

Re: early predictions on 53 man roster

I know this thread is all about roster spots, but someone help me out on a conversation I had with another fellow Skins fanatic yesterday concerning substitutions...... When the Skins go to a Nickle Defense, who replaces whom? I said that our Weakside LB goes out and our 3rd Corner comes in. When we go to a Dime Defense, the Strong LB goes out with the Weak LB and our 3rd Corner and maybe one of the 3rd Safeties comes in.
Is this about right?

I don't think there's any set rule for substitutions on nickel and dime formations. Every D-coordinator has their own plays and it can be many different allignments on any given play.

If I had to guess, I'd say that the strong-side LB goes out before the weak-side LB does on passing situations.

Beem, is your thinking on this that the Weak-side LB is a better pass defender than the Strong-side? Just curious, I agree with you that Greg Williams uses a lot of different "packages" but I am just wondering what the general substitution rule is when an Offense shows you a 3-WR set.

You are gonna, as a D Coordinator keep your two best cover/pass rush LBs out there. For us, thats Marcus and Lemar. In the nickel, weak and strong LB no longer exist, rather, the nickel plays to strength.
