So, what IS the cap plan?

I trust Gibbs completely, but I'm just curious. What is the plan here? Some people seem to think we're headed for cap hell. What does Joe know that they don't?

Canuck? Sports Crum? Ramseyfan? Anyone? This cap stuff has my head spinning!!!

Their " Plan " so to speak is *most likley* to backload all the big contracts and then just resturucture them down the road.This is a bit risky but has worked thusfar.

I think you've got it nailed. And by the way, this is what all the teams do. I once called it the "Scarlett O'Hara Management Technique" because it allows you to say that you can ignore the problem today and deal with it tomorrow.

The key to making this "plan" work is good player selection in the first place and then some good fortune down the road. The reason that this same plan has not worked here in Washington in the last 4-5 years is that the people in charge of bringing in the players brought in the WRONG players. YOu know who they are; I don't have to list them here again for the umpteenth time.

After you bring in the right players, then you need to have the good fortune that they don't get injured (Brandon Noble) or get crosswise with the law (Darrell Russell/Rae Carruth) or eat their way out of the league (Scott Mitchell/Gilbert Brown) That is why Gibbs (and Andy Reid in Philly) put so much emphasis on judging the character of the players they sign in addition to their on-field abilities.

The cap plan with Snyder has always been stretch it to the limit, LOL

The overall cap plan, IMO, is to keep backloading contracts to sign players, restructure a few as needed every year, and sacrifice 1 big contract every year or so. Last year it was Stephen Davis. This year it was Champ Bailey, Lional Dalton, Bruce Smith, etc. I think it will be something like this.

the science is to spread out all of the marquee players decision years. When you have too many players with big numbers in the same year, however if it is just one per year we should be able to maneuver our way through this tangled web

Good stuff. And I agree that, as Sports crumug says, everybody does it. The idea that the skins are the only ones spending and everyone else is trying to be the Pats is just wrong.
