I've met Bryant Gumbel and spoken on the phone with Greg Gumbel. Those two couldn't be more different. Bryant acts like his shit don't stink. Greg isn't some super friendly outgoing guy but at least he treats everyone with respect and you can have a conversation with him without feeling like you're wasting precious seconds of his life.

Re: Tagliabue can't find Gene Upshaw's leash...
i dont think u guys understand what he was trying to say. NFL players recieve very "organization friendly" contracts, which prevents owners from overpaying obviously. He's simply saying upshaw is and has not fought to make player contracts more "player friendly". If you look at player contracts in the NBA, NHL, and MLB, Gumbel is right

Re: Tagliabue can't find Gene Upshaw's leash...
[quote=TAFKAS;206439]Well I don't want to get into a debate or discussion about the NFL's CBA. But, Upshaw has to be given some credited for the NFL's relative stability over the years. The NBA had a lockout that killed half a season, MLB had a strike that killed half a season and the World Series, the NHL had a lockout that killed an entire season. In all of those cases, the players came back in the same position they were before, if not worse.[/quote
I agree look at the state of the NFL compared to the rest of these leagues: NHL-Nearly financially defunct and with strike solidified its status as least popular major pro sport in north america. NBA-Monster guaranteed contracts creating primmadonnas. The game is boring. Rules are enforced and fouls are called depending on who you are. MLB-Major blow from strike decreasing popularity. Also guaranteed contracts, attitudes, and the such.
