if this is true, then it's a dumb move... a first and third possibly? that's terrible...

What I dont understand is why would we give a higher draft pick if we had a worse record?

Think of it as a bet between the two teams. If they finish better, they get better picks.

It wouldn't make much sense the other way around.

It's just one of those conditionals to make a trade work.
