Re: some perspective on the season so far
9-7 probably won't make the playoffs this year, especially with the nasty tiebreaker situation we currently find ourselves in (0-2 division, 0-3 conference).
We need to get to 10-6. As you look at the schedule, you gotta figure we're in trouble when we go to Indy and go to Philly. If we lose those two games, we're up to 5 losses. That means we'd have to go 8-1 against our three division opponents at home, the Titans, Rams, Saints, Falcons, Panthers and Buccaneers. Do we all realize what an uphill battle that is? We either need to steal a big one from the Colts or when we go to Philly, or need to come up absolutely huge in November and December. Being at 2-3 is not something the team should have expected, nor should we be saying oh gee that's par for the course given our schedule. We're in a big big hole. We can still climb out of it, but I can't accept 2-3 as some kind of acceptable situation.

all i know is if we don't make the playoffs, Williams better come back and get the defense back on track before he leaves.

Playoffs seems like a pipe dream. I'm just praying for back to back wins right now.

Re: some perspective on the season so far
I think your view of Sunday's result may depend on your opinion of the Giants. I DID NOT pick the Giants to go to the playoffs this year and I think I'll be proved right. I know a lot of folks have a higher opinion of that team which may explain why they counted that game as a loss going in. I had the Vikings making the playoffs over the G-Men.
My picks to make the NFC playoffs were: Seattle Washington Tampa Bay (whoops) Minnesota Dallas Chicago This is why I wasn't overly concerned by the first two losses. But the Giants are garbage. I don't care where you play them, you've got to find a way to win.

Schneed - don't concede the Colts game so easily. They are a very shaky 4-0. Their run defense has been ATROCIOUS - just look at the numbers. That is a game where our O-line must assert itself as it did against the Jags. Do that and we can definitely stay with Indy.

But their DE's are very light in the pants when it comes to stopping the run. Establish the rushing attack and those DE's won't see many 3rd and longs where they can pin their ears back.

their defense has holes though. but keeping up with that offense can be harsh. |
