Re: T.J. Duckett Conspiracy
I for one am extremely pissed at the cavalier attitude we have toward using draft choices to build good, cheap depth. Champ for Portis? Sure, and we'll throw in a 2nd round pick for good measure. Brunell about to get cut by the Jags? Wait, we'll give you a 3rd for him. Trade up to get Jason Campbell? Here Denver, take 3 more of our picks, including a #1, and we won't let the kid see the light of day. Same with Duckett, but we "only" gave up a 3rd so that he can ride the pine. Then there's Brandon Lloyd - let's give up a 3rd and a 4th, sign him to a long term contract, then throw him the ball about as often as we threw it to Taylor Jacobs.
Wonder why we have no depth? We keep trading picks for guys with limited roles. Is this any way to build a long-term winner? I love how New England and Philly stockpile draft picks, and build a team through the draft first and fill the few remaining holes with free agency. I call that the "anti-Danny" approach to running a football team. I hope that Gibbs and The Danny can win consistently with their approach, but I won't hold my breath on that. |

Re: T.J. Duckett Conspiracy
I think we tendered him for a year, so you guys would have had to wait a year to get him if not for the trade.

BTW- Someone mentioned we could just trade Duckett. Who is going to give us a 3rd rounder for him? 4, 5, 6? Not likely. |

This team gives away draft picks like Xmas presents, it amazing. If memory serves I think the skins only have something like 1 pick in next year's draft. How this builds the team for the future (as JG said he was going to do whe he was re-hired) I'm not really sure. I know of no perennially successful teams that abandon the draft like the redskins do. Maybe that's why the redskins have not been very successful since 1992. |

Of our twenty two starters on both offense and defense, only five are our very own draft choices. Samuels, Jansen and Dockery on the OL, Rogers, and Taylor in the defensive secondary. Is this really the way you want to build a football team? |

You're forgetting a few. Cooley, Marshall, and Sellers.

Re: T.J. Duckett Conspiracy
Just checked on both Sellers, and Marshall. We signed Sellers as an UFA in 98 and Marshall as a FA in 2001. I would like to see a little more home grown talent making up the core of our roster as opposed to FA's; so that's the main reason why I have for the most part disagreed with the trading away of DC's. Every year here we seem to always be in the "win now" mode which becomes a breeding ground for FA's. It's beginning to remind me of the George Allen era when "The Future Is Now" slogan was the order of the day. Oh, and speaking of Sellers, he did have a short stint with Cleveland, and the Canadian league before coming back to the NFL and the Redskins after working out some of his personal problems. |

Re: T.J. Duckett Conspiracy
No its not. All of the recently successful teams keep their draft picks and deveolp their own young hungry player that play hard so they can get a big payday. The skins give away draft picks and sign older free agents that appear to come here looking for a payday after a good contract year with another team. The results of both approaches speak for themselves.

My sentiments exactly. However only in the world of professional sports do you get paid before you work. In the real world I wonder how many employers would go bankrupt using that formula. I have never in my life had a job where I got paid before I worked. I have never had to wonder how teams like Philadelphia and other always wind up with a host of young talent year after year. Thed don't trade all their future away for players just looking for a stellar bonus and payday. Teams that build that way will always be in contention year after year. |

"anti-danny" approach. someone he sees it for the way it is. we will pay a steep price for all of these trades down the road. It will come back and bite us in the ass again. Let me remind everyone once again of the 2000 season. This all seems eerily familiar. Coming off a playoff season we added a bunch of free agents....remember we won a playoff game in 99 and then added a bunch of free agents and we didnt make the playoffs. Fast forward to now. Won a playoff game and added a bunch of free agents and look where we are now. Too damn similar.
