Rogers hasn't been struggling. Seriously. It's like people have that opinion, then they read it and have it themselves. REALLY, what causes anyone to think he's struggling. I think the cushion he gives is due to playcalling, not on his own.

that is not what greg williams said, or post game said. they said he is afraid of getting burned and he gives himself that cushion.

On redskins postgame show, Brian Mitchell asked Greg Williams about the cushion and he said that it looked like carlos was worried about his footing and getting beat by Stallworth. GW said he was going to work on that will carlos this week.

But I agree with both of opinion, He is struggling and part of it is coaching. Too much cushion and too much zone. He needs to get on the line and bump WR's.
THere's no point in having big cornerbacks if we arent going to bump them at the line.

You know what, I think I agree with you. Although, I must say your reasoning sounds famililar. :cheeky-sm

Rogers lacks top end speed and cover skills (explaining the cushion). But he has been the league's best tackling CB in the run game since he broke in (it's why GW took him in the top 10), and the importance of that cannot be understated. He will never be the best cover CB in the lineup, but you want him in the lineup for his run stuffing ability.

I think he needs to play smarter on third down and learn to take risks. But he will be our no. 2 corner for years to come and be good at it.

And he looked great against Philadelphia this week in man.

regardless we will need a quality CB to take over for springs when he leaves.

That's why I want Clements in FA and move Springs to safety.

springs is the best CB we have, and clements-springs-prioleau would still be better than clements-rogers-springs (imo).

and i'm down with getting more OL depth... we do have an option in todd wade on our roster, but he's not really a starting tackle, and even with jansen playing poorly, i'm not sure he'd be better. we do need a starter on the OL to either keep in reserve or possibly try as a starter at RT or LG, but that'd mean two expensive FA signings (two of CB, DE, OL + draft the other)...

i mean, during the offseason we were talking about CB and OL depth, mid-grade FA LBs, P, K, and DEs... at least WR is taken care of :/.

Tony Franklin as the number two CB in the draft?!

I have seen him play for two years now, and I don't think he is good enough for the first round. Seems like this is a poor CB draft.

i think some of the talent eval on that mock is off. on NDS he's the 21st rated CB and a 5-6th round pick.

That seems to make alot more sense. I think whoever did this mock, just randomly put people he felt were good, onto a list.

Good point, right on. This question is for everyone.

Lets say for sake of arguement we bring in Nate Clements next year. What happens to Springs?

The three options:

1)We cut Springs, save the cap room and resign/sign a nickelback.

2)We keep Springs on board, demote Rogers and start Clements and Springs.

3)We keep Springs, demote him to the nickle role, and start Rogers along side Clements.

For me the choice is pretty obvious, but I want to hear what the warpath thinks.

cutting springs saves no cap room over keeping him, so that'd make no sense (and oh yeah, springs is still a true #1 CB). it's choice #2, cause rogers hasn't figured out how to play in the NFL yet, and he'd have plenty of snaps there. we could possibly move springs to safety as well.
