Re: Carter and Lloyd Looking Promising

lloyd isn't bad and he blocks well.... lloyd and el are still overpaid though (the next highest offer to el was 8mill SB, 18mill total - vs our 10mill SB, 31mill total).

carter' looked average at best he's shown some improvement though, but for what he's paid? :/

and yes, you need to judge performance according to contracts, because those huge overheads hurt the team's ability to improve.

If you had the power to go back and sign just one of the two, which one would you choose?

Obviously ARE, because he returns punts, and throw.

el, i mean, neither one of the WRs looks that bad, but we've got patten sorta cheap and those contracts are killers if they're allowed to hit their 4th year for the current production.

Hey, let's lay off on the criticism of Andre Carter.

Remember, it's the defensive tackles' fault -- not his -- that he's not getting to the quarterback.

Actually, I blame those pesky offensive linemen for getting in his way. If they weren't there he'd get a couple of sacks.

I wholeheartedly agree. I was sarcastically repeating one of the more mystifying excuses that some at this message board have actually used to defend Carter.

Randle El. Although you lose the ability to make plays in 1 v 1 situations, you need the punt returning ability and the versatility to break the game wide open.

Since the new CBA was agreed upon, I think that the most important thing for roster building is no longer managing the salary cap (because over the next few years, the cap is going to increase at a ridiculous rate), its managing the active roster. Espicially at the WR position, with guys who don't touch the ball all that much, you are in today's game hurting your team by having a guy who can do nothing but play WR taking up a roster spot. Now if you are Santana Moss, and can do things on a football field others can only dream of, that's another thing.

There is really nothing versatile about Brandon Lloyd, per say. Over the last few games, he's been helping the offense by making catches in tight coverage. Of course, over his career, he really hasn't been good at getting seperation, so it's a good thing he can make those catches in traffic. I expect him to improve over the rest of the year.

But if we could only have had one, it should have been Randle El.

Can't blame them for getting huge contracts - blame the FO. I have been pleasantly surprised by Lloyd, not in terms of numbers but in terms of commitment - the guy obviously burns to win. His numbers will go up when the passing game opens up.

Carter has been disappointing but has shown sparks and has the explosive speed the skins D needs. I feel that what he really needs is some more support from inside - a little more pressure coming from elsewhere on the line could help him tremendously.

Re: Carter and Lloyd Looking Promising

loyd has shown promise, though at times he either ran a route wrong or there was miscommunication w/MB. He can go deep, we know that.
I hope Carter has just not been feeling it, & is waiting to break out. No excuses, we'll take any progress we can get.

If anything, he needs to work inside. He ends up trying to work outside and gets pushed downfield.

Good point! Despite being paid 'Main Man' money, I don't think that Carter is 'Main Man' material. However, if the Skins did have a genuine 'Main Man' on the other end, Carter could be a very good player - maybe 10-12 sacks a season.

At the moment, I get the impression that he is more likely to use them for impressing girls on the beach.
