Actually, trading down would be much more cap friendly (depending on the position played by the guy we draft at #5). If we pick a d-lineman at the #5 pick we're looking at a SB of about $11-13 million and a contract averaging between $4-$6 million per year.
If we took Taylor I'm not how much that would cost since I don't have a frame of refernce - no safety has been drafted at #5 in recent memory (if at all).
Trading down to say the #20 pick and getting another 2nd or 3rd rounder would be nice and easy on the cap since the difference in salary between a #5 pick and a #20 pick is outrageous given that the talent level is not immensely different. A second or third round rookie contract wouldn't cost much at all.
