Re: Ladell Betts contract extension

I'm guessing a signing bonus of around $7 million. Just guessing though.

Good move. Keeps us from having to find a replacement. If we let him go, we would have been forced to sign a free agent for the same amount of money (if not more). Or use one of the few draft picks we have on a RB. And it's better to have continuity.

This shores up the RB position in DC for years to come. Now we can turn our attention to other spots like CB.

That's another really good point. It keeps Washington from getting a guy who they don't know how he'll adapt. They've seen what Betts can do in Washington and in the system and they decided he was worth keeping versus going out and signing another backup who may not have fit in or pined for a starting job. Very good point, the deal makes a lot of sense simply because it's keeping with what you know.

Also, I've been critical of them for not keeping role players. So, I like the fact that he's staying, I just hope this doesn't convince them that they could be fine without Clinton.

I really applaud the move, and I hope we'll move to re-sign some other guys too by the end of the season like Dockery.

Rumors are that Betts will get a bonus of about $6M or $7M.

Ditto. I'm worried that Dock wants to test the market. What do you guys think he's worth? I think he'll want a 10mil + signing bonus.
Wish we could give him AA's contract & send AA back out west somewhere.

I think Dockery will come at a fair price.

I have to admit I was down on him earlier but in recent weeks he's played very well and most of all I'd like to see us reward our own guys for once.

Re: Ladell Betts contract extension

why don't we just move AA to Guard when Dockery leaves, that move might be the one that puts us over the top.

I am happy that Betts has stayed with the team. Next on the list is big Dock! I sure hope we can resign him as he is really coming along this season.

I'm a little surprised but I'm glad we locked him up.

I wonder if this means we'll go back to more "Redskins football" next year. Just keep pounding it up the middle with our 1-2 punch.

Re: Ladell Betts contract extension

When you look at our free agent list the only names that stand out to me are Dockery and Betts. Now it's just Dockery. Hopefully, the FO is now on the phone to his reps working something out.

As for Betts, good deal. Good. Hopefully this is a sign of how things will be done in the future.
