Re: ESPN: Nate Clements in Redskins' plans?
Why go for Thomas when the price it takes to get him will be higher than ever. We have taken players at similar stages in their careers and it has rarely worked out for us. I would love to see the Skins start structuring their team through the use of the draft. To say that free agents are less of a risk just doesn't seem to be the case these days, especially not for us.

Re: ESPN: Nate Clements in Redskins' plans?
i think they need a good defensive end worse than they do a qb.the qb can sit back in the pocket and write a song unless a good de can put some pressure on him.i would almost give on of your right nuts to see julius peppers as a redskin,he's the real deal!

Re: ESPN: Nate Clements in Redskins' plans?
How did a QB fall into this equation? And you'd almost give one of my nuts?? My nuts aren't for sale or barter. I'm sure others would say the same about their nuts...except 724skinsfan 'cause he's weird like that

Re: ESPN: Nate Clements in Redskins' plans?
Frank Gore has a better chance of running for 4000 yards next year (enter Rexi's analysis of how it could happen) than Peppers being in Burgandy and Gold within the next 5 years.

I think Thomas is just speculation on Lenny's part, he doesn't seem like a great fit here.

Re: ESPN: Nate Clements in Redskins' plans?
I'd rather sign Asante Samuel to address our cornerback needs. He's younger and has more picks. I just think he's in the upswing of his career while Clements is on his way down.

Re: ESPN: Nate Clements in Redskins' plans?
I like Samuel but I think the problem is that physically he doesn't fit the GWilliams mold for a DB

Re: ESPN: Nate Clements in Redskins' plans?
Anyone can be a corner for the Pats. (see Troy Brown) I am not convinced that Samuel is a big time corner.

Will Springs have to rework contract if Clements is signed?
If the Redskins go after and sign Clements will the team ask Springs to redo his contract or cut him?

Re: Will Springs have to rework contract if Clements is signed?
Quote:
There's no reason to ask him to take a paycut. On the open market he's worth what his contract is scheduled to pay him. All that aside, I think he's still a valuable player for us. He's still our best corner. If Clements came on board and Springs were healthy, they'd both be starters. One of the biggest questions the defensive coaches will have to ask themselves is can we play top 10 defense again with Springs and Rogers as our starters, or do we need to get a top guy to pair with Springs? We know that K Wright probably isn't cutting it as a nickel. So the question is do the Skins go after a young CB to play nickel initially and eventually take over for Springs? Or do we need a stud right now because Rogers just won't cut it? I don't know the answer at this point - Rogers has quietly had a much better second half of the season.
