Cap Impact:

Archuleta is scheduled to count $2.4 million in 2007. If you cut him, you take a $9 million cap hit, or $6.6 million more than what we currently have him on the books for. If you cut him as a Post June 1 cut, you bring his 2007 cap number down to $1.8 million, meaning you've created $600K in space for 2007. Then in 2008, you have to carry $7.1 million of deadcap money, which is $3.3 million more than the $3.8 million he's scheduled to count that year.

Summary: the Post June 1 cut makes it very doable, especially considering the cap should be around $116 million come 2008.

It would really suck to carry $14.2 million in 2008 deadcap for two players. But the team could do it. We did something similar for Trotter and Coles. Each team is allowed to designate two Post June 1 cuts that can be released from the team before June 1. The team would get the Post June 1 cap benefits, while at the same time freeing Lloyd and Archuleta to pursue other opportunities.

I think Archuleta is surely gone. As for Lloyd, I just don't know. I could see him gone, I could see him staying.

After reading all about how bad the locker room situation is, how players are sick of how the Redskins treat outside free agents, and how much B Lloyd is disliked, I think the team really needs to can Arch and Lloyd just to reestablish a sense of justice and accountability in the locker room.

The team also needs to re-up with Dockery to show that it means business about keeping core guys here. I don't care if we have to pay Dockery more than Eric Steinbach gets, the front office and Gibbs need to show the players that the term "Real Redskin" doesn't mean "we like you, if you accept a discounted contract."

I'm with that. I mean already Samuels is wanting to restructure to keep Dock. Great message it would send if they got Steinbach and sent Dock packing.

With the way this year went and the sour taste in alot of players' mouths I think the team will go above and beyond to retain Dockery. #1 because he had a great season and deserves to be re-signed and #2 for the message that it will send the team. We've been burned for far too long by always looking outside the organization. It's time to make a real committment to rewarding our own guys. Re-signing Betts was a good first step, now we just need to keep that going.

I wonder how he can do that, seriously. Unless AA goes to Darrell Green's School of Coverage it will be hard to put AA in the game just as a blitz specialist. The other team will know every time what he's going to do and audible some counter. I guess at that point then GW pull AA back to counter that in which case AA is now stuck in coverage. He needs to be put in a position on the field that maximizes his tackling but minimizes his need to run up and down the field in coverage. Maybe GW can create a Weak MLB position?

I think that no matter what Gibbs or any other coach says today, the real decisions won't be made until after they've had these "meetings" and watch game tape. That can change everything.

And while Brandon Lloyd didn't endear himself to the coaching staff or some of his team mates, I big part of his problem this year (along with all of the wideouts) was inconsistency at quarterback. Give him another season to see what he and Campbell can develop together.

I do think the offense is in good hands.

Archuleta is virtually the same weight as Lemar Marshall, though two inches shorter. I would experiment with Archuleta as a pass rushing specialist linebacker, and decommission him as a safety.

I wonder if we can get Ryan Clark back, as someone mentioned on another thread. He apparently has lost his starting job in Pittsburgh. It would be a brilliant move because it would help our defense fill an area of need, improve the play and frame of mind of Sean Taylor, and show that we can correct mistakes we have made in personnel.

As for Brandon Lloyd, it's tough to say because I don't trust gossip about him, but I would find the kind of plays that he feels most energized about running, and use him as a third receiver. I would try to make things work with him in a more limited role than starting 2nd receiver.

I see Archie as a post June 1 cap cut for reasons that Sneed pointed out. Before the St. Louis game Sports talk 980 had a beat writer from St. Louis (who was actually a Skins fan) and he said Archie has a bad back and since he had injured his back he has not been the same player he was in his first couple of years in the league. He went to say that back injuries like the one he sustained are incrediably tough to come back from - why our FO could not see this before they gave him the largest contract for safety in history I don't understand.

I think the Skins will keep Llyod one more season to prove whether he belongs or not because you just don't give up 2 picks for a one year rental. That way if he does not pan out you can cut him post June 1 for the next year and spread you cap hits accordingly.

I think they're going to keep Lloyd in the doghouse for a while to teach him a lesson, then give him another shot. Honestly, I don't see how they dump AA this year. Keep him around and make him a special teams and blitzing DB expert. He isn't worth the money obviously, but they're sunk costs at this point. I don't think we need his roster spot that badly.

Only way i would like either of them to go is if they pull a lavar and give back tghe penalty or restructure so we can cut them. Otherwise I don't care if we pull a snyder and tell them we can buy them a plasma TV and they can watch the games at home because i would rather waste a roster spot than 7 million.

Yup, then Dock, then Cooley, then Taylor. What I do like is the fact that it sounds like Gibbs is committed to listening to players about what works in the offseason. I was reading a quote by Santana and he said it best when he said that they are professionals and it's not like they're going to come there out-of-shape.

That's what I was thinking. I'm thinking that beyond the bitching, beyond the horrible record, let's see another season with Campbell at QB and a season with either A) no injuries on defense or B) some depth on defense.

Sure, it's a team game, but Wright was good for at least a touchdown a game. That being said, I thought he played great in nickel packages.
