They should have let him play through his contract year to see if what he was doing is for real or just a few game fluke. Make him earn his new contract. Also by letting him play through his contract year the team could get that boost that always seems to come from players in their contract year and that boost may also push Portis to excell because he would not want to fall behind a surging Betts playing for a new big contract.

Not sure what you mean, his contract was up this year so it was either re-sign him or let him walk.
