It's amazing how today's society turns on people so quickly, it is what it is, I guess. If we win again next season, he'll be the greatest coach ever again to you folks!
I have not turned on him, but after 6-10 and 5-11 seasons (along with several personnel blunders) he is certainly begging for some criticism. Also, from many of the stories that came out it is obvious that he isn't the same guy that won 3 Super Bowls. Do I think he is incapapble of winning another, no but they will need a flawless offseason to get there.

The "blind loyalty" that you have displayed is a bigger problem than some ribbing of our coach. If fans don't voice their concerns vocally and with their wallet then the Redskins will continue to be number one in market cap and near the bottom in wins.

All true, excellent points there. Like I've said recently though, I would be right there with you in criticizing Gibbs, and saying the game has passed him by if it wasn't for that 2005 playoff season. Now if he doesn't get it turned around next season, then I think he may need to seriously consider stepping down, not only for the good of the team but for his own good as well.

I'll be the first to admit that trading a 3rd round pick for TJ Duckett, among other moves, was nothing short of idiocy, his GM skills are not on par with his coaching skills right now. If you say I have "blind loyalty" you're dead on, when a guy has helped to bring 3 super bowl titles to your favorite team then that kind of thing tends to happen! He's also an incredibly decent human being to boot. Also tell me what you mean by, "Also, from many of the stories that came out it is obvious that he isn't the same guy that won 3 Super Bowls." What, has a mellowed too much, or something?

I was referring to the Tom Friend article which referred to Gibbs 2.0 as more of a grandfather around the park. Friend covered the Redskins during the glory years and remembered how Gibbs dealt with losing during his first tenure. Friend (and former players) confirmed that weeks when they lost, Gibbs was almost physically consumed by it. He would focus so hard that he couldn't go home from the park. I don't blame Gibbs for not being able to match that intensity now but I definitely think that losses are acceptable now and that is a problem.

I agree with you that he should step down if we have another painful year and I think that he would. Now, as far as people's comments that the game has passed him by, I do not agree. I would argue that every NFL football coach has approximately the same knowledge base when it comes to x's and o's, fundamentals etc.... What made Gibbs a Hall of Famer was his ability to motivate people and have them buy into a common goal. Joe Gibbs can still coach and motivate players (see the running game in '05 and the second half of '06). The one crack in the armor that I saw was him giving up the offense this year. It seems that he has lost some confidence for even considering that move.

All that being said the offseason has started well for us in the division. Man Boobs is gone and Barber has retired. All they need to do is have a good offseason and we are right in the middle of it.

Yeah, I read that Tom Friend article, it was an interesting expose to say the least. Friend doesn't really impress me much, on many levels, but it was a pretty good article. I think one of things going against Gibbs this time around, which is probably obvious, is that he's nearing 70 years old and is a diabetic. He probably doesn't have nearly the energy level he once did, and isn't able to capitalize on his talents the way he once did because of it.
