Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)

If the Redskins' FO/Coaching Staff make Dockery the highest paid offensive lineman in the NFL, they should all be checked into a rehab center because they are doing some very high quality stuff...

He's not the best offensive guard let alone lineman on the Redskins' team - let alone in the NFC East and etc. etc.

I can't believe his agent is that delusional either.

As of this moment, Dockery is not in danger of being sent away. As I pointed out in one of the other threads, the Redskins have a pattern when they are about to release or let go one of their starters. They begin to "trash" him in the local papers and on the local sports radio outlets - - and since Danny Boy onwns one of the local sports radio outlets, that makes it all the easier. I have not yet heard that Dockery is "difficult to coach" or "an outsider in the locker room" or "unwilling to work as hard as he can" or "has the most offensive body odor north of the equator". Absent that kind of "inside scoop" from Redskins' Park, I don't think they've given up on getting Dockery back here next year.

But I want to pose a cautionary note here for those who think that Dockery is some kind of lynch-pin for the entire team. He's been here 4 years and has played in every game for all of those 4 years. For the first 3 years he was fat and slow; he was toting around at least 30 lbs of extra fat - - and that's being kind.

Then he trimmed about 50 lbs of fat and added a lot of of muscle last year and his performance was hugely improved.

Now, did he do that because he "saw the light" and realized what he needed to do to survive in the NFL - - or did he do that because it was his contract year?

I don't know the answer to that because I don't read minds. But the answer to that question is VERY important when it comes to deciding just how much you want to pay him and how long a contract you want to sign him to.
