I found a Transmission guy years ago by the following.
I took my truck to Ammco, where they proceeded to tell me I needed a complete rebuild w/torque converter for like $1600.
I listened to a friend of mine who suggested a second opinion from a mech he knew. I called him. He asked me several specific questions regarding the problem. He correctly diagnosed the problem OVER THE PHONE! I took it to him, and he made repairs for $35!
Moral, if it sounds like BS, get another opinion.
