Re: News from the Combine

I'd rather keep Betts, but if we're going to trade him...Betts and the #6 to Houston for the #8 and the #40.

See, i dont really understand why you would like this trade...

Here you are suggesting to trade down from number 6 to number 8, which in itself could command a 2nd or 3rd round pick...depending on how badly the team wanted to move up to get a player available at #6.

And then trading betts away for a 2nd round pick...

So if you count the value of going from 6th overall to 8th overall...then you are essentially suggesting we trade Betts and a 2nd or 3rd rd pick (which is the value we could get for dropping from 6th to 8th) for the texans 2nd rounder... I dont really see how this would be a beneficial trade from our angle.

Ideally I'd say #6 for #8 and #40 but it would seem like we may have to add a little extra for that.

Well it alway's SEEEEEEEMS that way to a lot of people within the organization, thats why we constantly come out with the short end of the stick.

We will not make a trade until the draft starts to unfold and teams see the player their targeting become available, they will be willing to pay more as the pick approaches and they know they can get their guy, personally I believe Peterson can be a big chip for us to play if he's still there when we pick, the Panthers have a huge need a RB, they may be the team willing to give up the most to get Peterson if he's still available. Quinn could be another guy that's available when we pick and possibly bring back quite a bit.

Re: News from the Combine

I'm not sure why people around here don't want to trade a back up running back( with fumbling issues) for a proven, pro bowl middle linebacker. we definitely need someone in the middle. yet, on the flip side, alot of these same people seem to have no problem signing a 32 year old middle linebacker, when the last 2 times we have tried that, have failed miserably( trotter, barrow)? by signing fletcher, this puts the skins in the exact same position they are in , about 2 seasons from now. this is assuming they can get 2 years out of fletcher

I don't think that's the real concern. It's dropping from #6 to #25 and not adding any other picks that's the concern

If we don't fix the line then it does not matter who we bring in to play MLB.

we can still get a quality linemen later in the draft. and having quality in the middle, the guy calling the shots, could help a ton. it seemed like guys were out of position all the time last year.

Re: News from the Combine

Calvin Johnson is 6'5 235 lbs and ran a 4.3. If he somehow slips to the 6th pick I hope like hell we take him. That is if we still have our pick.

You mean the same way we picked Carlos Rogers when we had a glaring need at corner instead of picking Shawne Merriman, yeah passing on a phenom reciever who ran a 4.3 forty at 6'5" would definately be the smart thing, god knows Brandon Lloyd,James Thrash and Randle El just strike fear in the heart of opponents.

We are not good enough to draft for need. Did the Saints need a RB last year? No. They took the best player on the board. The Texans drafted for need and you see where it got them.

Only positions that are off limits are QB and RB. Otherwise it should be fair game.

Re: News from the Combine

the jets have to sweeten the deal a little more, i agree with all the guys saying bad move if we dont get a 2nd or maybe even a 3rd rounder. heres my plan of action: 1) resign doc, 2) sign kerney, this guy is a total beast, 3) make the draft day deal with the jets if they sweeten it. IF LARON LANDRY IS AVALIABLE (HE WONT BE) PICK HIM OTHERWISE pick Willis, Posluszny, or Timmions. Then with the second or third pick cb-s eric weddle out of utah(smart/instinctive football player who can play the game at a high speed). Thats what our boys need to do. ..........its very hard for me to think like that because i think jamal anderson is the next coming.............oh and would anybody trade our 6th pick for juluis peppers?

Re: News from the Combine

oh and i forgot to tell you that rocky macintosh isnt good enough thats why we go lb at number 25 instead of db or dline. all three of those linebackers can out play him esspecially willis and posluszny. its hard to admit it but i said it was bust last year when they drafted him. i hope he works out but right now it was a idiot mistake to trade up to get him, awful.
