I'll believe the Briggs deal when the ink has dried on the contract.

Fellow fanatics ... calm down. This is fun ...right??? We are name calling before the draft starts.

It doesn't look like the most logical move the Redskins could make, but when is the bounce of a football ever logical in Redskins' land. We could make a soap opera with this script.

Most folks on this site agree that we need have multiple needs on this team--which can be obtained via trading for current players or getting more picks (or a combination).

The best thing the Skins can do right now is create a demand for their #6 pick. By creating a buzz that they are willing to trade down, they hopefully will create a supply of offers on draft day that will yield the best outcome for themselves. Two players in particular, if they are available at #6, will entice teams to do business with the Skins--either Quinn or Petersen. The Skins should continue to create a climate of demand for this pick while hoping that one of these two guys slips to #6.

Everybody here has great points and just like I am are against the deal.

All over NFL on Sirius on all the shows and every host said the Skins are getting the better end of this one. I don't know if we are all bias toward the FO and hate them. OR are we the only logical ones.

Honestly, I'd be suprised if those guys know that we gave up two picks to draft Rocky, that Marshall is decent, how bad our Dline was, what we were offered from Denver.

If we had the #6, had a hole at OLB, and hadent just used two 2nd round picks on another OLB, and had a full draft of picks....then my tune totally changes and I think we win in a steal. But we are looking at the entire picture...most other people see Briggs/31 for 6th....which looks good in that sense.

We would be getting the better end of the deal - a pro bowl player in his prime just to allow them to move up in the 1st round. At the end of the day we'd have our 1st rnd pick as would they. But we'd also have their pro bowl LB.

I think the reaction here is totally a sign of how Skins fans are no longer wowed by these big moves & thought that the Danny et al had decided to make a change for the better this offseason. The reaction has been irrational in my opinion, but is understandable given our recent history. My only objection to the trade is its impact on team chemisty & as I think Sherrif pointed out - the opportunity cost of the trade.

Briggs agent Drew R. is on ESPN saying it is up to the Bears to accept the deal. That the Redskins have made the offer.
Then Mort said immediately after saying the Bears have rejected it and they not happy about the way it happened. That they never gave permission for Redskins to arrange a deal.

why get briggs just draft Willis in the draft if thats what they want

Uh, because Briggs is a proven commodity whereas no one knows anything about Willis.

Edit: Not advocating the trade, just saying why we'd go for Briggs.

Hopefully this will fizzle out just as quick as this thing flared up. Danny Boy if this was your great idea, chill at the castle, let the people that know football make these decisions.

I had no idea we where even in the market for a LB? Not to mention one that is disgruntled, I'm not playing in Chicago, yada, yada, yada........not taking anything away from his talent, his pro bowls speak for themselves.

However, we HAVE got to stop throwing draft picks away, like trash. Let's TRADE DOWN and get more, not less.

Also, fill our PRIMARY NEEDS first. At some point along the road you have to learn from your mistakes?

depends on how you want to view learning from your mistakes. If you compare this proposed deal to the Champ/Portis deal, this one is multitudes better. The mere fact that we're not giving up any additional picks says a lot about the team learning from its mistakes. A couple of years ago, we would've given up the #6 for Briggs & maybe thrown in a pick or 2 in later rounds.

Now if you mean the team should stop making big, splashy deals to get players & just focus on making draft picks, point taken. However, even if criticize the team for this deal, the fact is we valued the #6 pick enough to use it as leverage to get an additional player, who happens to be a top LB in his prime. Again, I don't understand why people here think we'd be getting the wrong end of this, but I do understand that fans are tired of the big deals that don't help us win.
