In this case there has been to much talk about SS not even being here next year to begin with. No one shoe fits all, not ALWAYS is a player willing to restructure.
What would be the be motivation for him to restructure to help the team?

Generally, restructure means more money up front. Thers's other ways to restructure, usually involving an extention of some sort, but when the term restructure is thrown out with no qualifier, it's almost certainly referring to a base salary being converted into a signing bonus.
