Need College Park housing advice
Hey Guys,
Just was wondering if anyone knew what the "bad" areas of College Park were. I'm looking at getting housing for the fall semester, as I am attending UMD then. There are 4 of us who are looking for a place, and having a little bit of difficulty determining the quality of the places. I don't know what's bad... I'm planning on heading down and scoping the area out, but any help narrowing down where to "scope" would be appreciative. Thanks for the help!

Doesnt matter where you live, there are bad people everywhere, my advice is live where you can afford, and stay away from the rest of the crap that goes down.

Re: Need College Park housing advice
There are two girls living with us, but they happen to be my cousins. Bummer.
I've been talking to people and basically they've said to go check the place out... If it's well lit, and doesn't look incredibly sketchy then it's a keeper.

that's nice in theory but it puts a hell of a damper on farting, burping, scratching and basically living like a guy

I have to say, most of the girls I knew in college lived like TOTAL slobs. They'd go out, dressed Hollywood, and when they got home there were piles of dirty thongs and crap laying everywhere.

They're just as bad, if not worse than alot of guys I knew. But they probably couldn't top the dump of a room I had in my freshman room, I swear we had corn growing under the beds it was so filthy. |

Re: Need College Park housing advice
I lived in a general state of filth throughout college.
Freshman year I lived with a friend from high school. After he transferred I was informed that he was considered the stinky kid by the other people in my hall. The sad part was that I never noticed it. During my sophomore year we kept a patch of sod in our room. We'd water it and give it fertilizer. In the mornings I would stand on it as I brushed my teeth because I like that feeling of grass between my toes. maybe I should be telling this story in the "legalize it" thread, because I'm pretty sure that's where the idea came from. On a similar note, my old roommate was on probation for weed and had to take monthly piss test, so he kept a bottle of clean piss in our fridge. To this day I'm afraid to drink apple juice. When I lived off campus junior and senior year we constantly had to have mouse traps out because they were rampant in my townhouse complex. We also had a bad mold problem in our bathroom because the exhaust fan didn't work properly. The landlord's solution was to paint over the mold, but that doesn't really work. In hindsight we should have probably sued those idiots. I have no idea what this has to do with UMD and their housing though.

Re: Need College Park housing advice
Off campus housing at UMD is just going to get harder and harder. Right now they have kicked all senors off campus that are not in an apartment type situation, where they have a lease on the apartment. All the other senors are forced to go off campus. THere are tents on our mall in protest but it really isn't going to do much. That is driving prices around here up.

Re: Need College Park housing advice
Base your search on how far you are willing to commute. There are definitely nicer areas the further you get from College Park, and with the influx of people that will flood the rental market, you might be better off.
