Nationals and Ravens

I am originally from the DC Metro area, and when I was growing up I followed the Washington Redskins, Washington Capitols, Washington Bullets, and Baltimore Orioles. Why the Orioles? Because of coarse the Nationals didn't exist. So when a city gets a new team are you supposed to drop your team like a bad habbit? Where in the hell are all of these Nationals and Ravens fans comming from? I understand when someone likes a team because they were raised that way, but to fall in love with a team that didnt exist when you were growing up completely confuses me.

I am sorry, but I don't like or follow the Nat's or the Ravens. Someone please enlighten me as to why in the world you follow either of the two.

Re: Nationals and Ravens

Well for me, here's why I became a Nationals fan. First off, coincidentally enough my second favorite team growing up was the Montreal Expos. Then even more coincidentally enough the Expos moved (sort of) to Puerto Rico temporarily. Being part Puerto Rican, that was pretty cool.

Also, I'm more of a National League fan to begin with. And finally, I used to work in Lanham, MD with a lot of coworkers who were from, or lived near the Baltimore area. I'm more into the National League anyway. And spending time with them made me realize I don't really know that area at all. They would talk about suburbs they live in-Brooklyn Park, White Marsh, Catonsville, Pikesville, etc.-and those places mean nothing to me. Then when I would talk about Dupont Circle, Chevy Chase, Tenleytown, Kentlands, etc.-they'd be at a loss (as I'm sure many of you are right now). So the Nats feel more like the home team

So I gotta go with the Nationals for the reason above. But I still have a place in my heart for the Os. And I like the Twins because they're AA team is just 2 0 minutes from me, and the Marlins just because.

I'm going to move this to the Other Sports forum.

I used to work near Dupont and would go there frequently for happy hour, I grew up in Chevy Chase, I went to school for a little while about a mile from Tenleytown, and my girlfriend grew up about a mile north of the Kentlands on 28. Memories.....

I worked at 19th & K at a law firm and would go to a lot of different bars in Dupont. I loved eating at Lauriol Plaza. I went to school at Deal before going to Good Counsel. Oh and I was born about 1-2 miles from Tenleytown at Sibley Hospital.

How do you know the Kentlands? They're too new for you to have grown up there.

Oh, and so as to not threadjack, I don't care about the Ravens even though they want to create some rivalry with us and I will always roots for the Nats because I'm a Washingtonian.

Lauriol is a great place. I have several friends who live in the Kentlands now, family friends mostly.

You're absolutely right. My apologies for starting the tangent.

Re: Nationals and Ravens

I have a place in my heart for the Nats, because I'm a local sports Homer, however I'm still an Orioles fan.

Re: Nationals and Ravens

I've always been a hometown team kind of guy. When I was a young kid I asked my dad who the local baseball team was and he said there wasn't one really. That the Washington Senators moved to Minnesota and then tried again only to move to Texas. As a result I became a Texas Rangers fan. Now that the Nationals have come back I am slowly becoming a Nationals fan and will still follow the Rangers just not as fervently.

Me too! The chain grows.

I've become a Nationals fan because I've always considered DC to be my home city (even though I've lived in Maryland my whole life) and I never felt that closely associated with B'more.
Plus, say what you want about Snyder but at least he's trying to field a winning team. I don't think you can say the same about Angelos. To me, it's hard to root for a team that doesn't seem to care about winning, especially if it's in a city that you don't care that much about.
